Smelling Good While Surfing
Hello sniffers and welcome to a new fragrance commentary. Today I’m writing about “A Lab on Fire,” a brand with a really interesting name. I don’t know many of their scents yet, but I found the fragrance “What We Do In Paris Is Secret” quite wonderful.
Today I present to you “Hossegor.” A name that sounds really strange, doesn’t it? Hossegor, or better said Soorts-Hossegor, is a small town in France, known and loved by surfers for its beach. The fragrance is dedicated to a summer vacation spot, so one can expect maritime notes.
And for all those who hate winter, you can snuggle up in your cozy blanket and think of summer places to warm yourselves (if you have a cozy blanket, that is… which the ladies here surely do… the real men among you probably don’t have such things and prefer to cuddle with their toolboxes, going crazy when they can’t immediately place the various wrenches back in their designated spots, or worse, they realize that one or two wrenches are missing, not to mention when you pinch a finger between a tool and the case while placing the tools, because the clamps are sometimes so tight and close that you have to press hard to get a tool back in, argh! :D)
Anyway, I’ll get to the fragrance now, let’s see if it really smells summery.
Overall, the fragrance is already quite summery. It is fresh, although not really citrusy, but especially the salty part reminds one of the salty air at the coast, which in turn evokes thoughts of a vacation or at least summer.
In the fragrance pyramid, a lot of notes are listed, but I can hardly detect most of them. This might also be because the sillage isn’t the strongest, and many notes simply don’t project enough to be really noticeable.
So later on, I mainly smell general herbs, maritime notes, and thus the salt, along with a bit of pepper and a hint of amber as a slightly sweet note. And it smells the same in the base, so while the fragrance is slightly spicy, it still generally feels quite fresh and thus suitable for summer.
It’s a nice, maritime fragrance, so it’s worth checking out, although I think it’s a bit too expensive for the “performance,” but that’s the case with every niche fragrance, as there are also numerous summer scents among them that are extremely short-lived, which also applies to mainstream or designer fragrances. For example, Ford's Mandarino di Amalfi is an absolutely stunning summer fragrance, but it lasts only about 30 minutes on me at most!
Anyway, it’s up to everyone whether they want to spend a lot of money on a short-lived fragrance; I think most people do that from time to time. Sometimes it just “clicks,” and you’re sure that you want a certain fragrance, especially if you’re a freak like all of you :D
Well, that’s it for now. I wish you all a nice evening and see you next time :)

Anyway, I’ll get to the fragrance now, let’s see if it really smells summery.
The Fragrance:
The fragrance starts off herbal, spicy, and salty. The salt seems to radiate the strongest of all three scent directions at the beginning, reminding one of maritime fragrances. Later, the salt is still present but becomes a bit weaker. Now I also detect herbs like sage as well as black pepper. Overall, the fragrance is already quite summery. It is fresh, although not really citrusy, but especially the salty part reminds one of the salty air at the coast, which in turn evokes thoughts of a vacation or at least summer.

The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is not particularly strong despite the spicy notes like pepper. Summer fragrances are generally rather weak, so this is acceptable here, as one wouldn’t expect anything strong anyway. The longevity, however, is quite good at six to seven hours. The Bottle:
The bottle is a white, seemingly opaque container. The cap is black and cylindrical, and there’s a flame with a laboratory glass on it, which is the brand's logo. I find the bottle nice; it’s something different, but it also somewhat reminds me of a pepper spray...Conclusion:
So, this fragrance hasn’t completely convinced me. It’s okay, but I often felt that none of the notes really took off. Of course, this can also have advantages, as for example, the salty notes don’t become too strong and thus piercing (which is often the downside of some maritime fragrances, when the salty notes become so strong that they start to sting uncomfortably in the nose). So the fragrance remains relaxed and is good for warm days, but it doesn’t have any notable strengths, at least in my opinion.
