Smelling Good While Surfing
Hello sniffers and welcome to a new fragrance commentary. Today I’m writing about “A Lab on Fire,” a brand with a really interesting name. I don’t know many of their scents yet, but I found the fragrance “What We Do In Paris Is Secret” quite wonderful.

Today I present to you “Hossegor.” A name that sounds really strange, doesn’t it? Hossegor, or better said Soorts-Hossegor, is a small town in France, known and loved by surfers for its beach. The fragrance is dedicated to a summer vacation spot, so one can expect maritime notes.

And for all those who hate winter, you can snuggle up in your cozy blanket and think of summer places to warm yourselves (if you have a cozy blanket, that is… which the ladies here surely do… the real men among you probably don’t have such things and prefer to cuddle with their toolboxes, going crazy when they can’t immediately place the various wrenches back in their designated spots, or worse, they realize that one or two wrenches are missing, not to mention when you pinch a finger between a tool and the case while placing the tools, because the clamps are sometimes so tight and close that you have to press hard to get a tool back in, argh! :D)

Anyway, I’ll get to the fragrance now, let’s see if it really smells summery.

The Fragrance:
The fragrance starts off herbal, spicy, and salty. The salt seems to radiate the strongest of all three scent directions at the beginning, reminding one of maritime fragrances. Later, the salt is still present but becomes a bit weaker. Now I also detect herbs like sage as well as black pepper.
Overall, the fragrance is already quite summery. It is fresh, although not really citrusy, but especially the salty part reminds one of the salty air at the coast, which in turn evokes thoughts of a vacation or at least summer.
In the fragrance pyramid, a lot of notes are listed, but I can hardly detect most of them. This might also be because the sillage isn’t the strongest, and many notes simply don’t project enough to be really noticeable.
So later on, I mainly smell general herbs, maritime notes, and thus the salt, along with a bit of pepper and a hint of amber as a slightly sweet note. And it smells the same in the base, so while the fragrance is slightly spicy, it still generally feels quite fresh and thus suitable for summer.

The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is not particularly strong despite the spicy notes like pepper. Summer fragrances are generally rather weak, so this is acceptable here, as one wouldn’t expect anything strong anyway. The longevity, however, is quite good at six to seven hours.

The Bottle:
The bottle is a white, seemingly opaque container. The cap is black and cylindrical, and there’s a flame with a laboratory glass on it, which is the brand's logo. I find the bottle nice; it’s something different, but it also somewhat reminds me of a pepper spray...

Conclusion:
So, this fragrance hasn’t completely convinced me. It’s okay, but I often felt that none of the notes really took off. Of course, this can also have advantages, as for example, the salty notes don’t become too strong and thus piercing (which is often the downside of some maritime fragrances, when the salty notes become so strong that they start to sting uncomfortably in the nose). So the fragrance remains relaxed and is good for warm days, but it doesn’t have any notable strengths, at least in my opinion.

It’s a nice, maritime fragrance, so it’s worth checking out, although I think it’s a bit too expensive for the “performance,” but that’s the case with every niche fragrance, as there are also numerous summer scents among them that are extremely short-lived, which also applies to mainstream or designer fragrances. For example, Ford's Mandarino di Amalfi is an absolutely stunning summer fragrance, but it lasts only about 30 minutes on me at most!

Anyway, it’s up to everyone whether they want to spend a lot of money on a short-lived fragrance; I think most people do that from time to time. Sometimes it just “clicks,” and you’re sure that you want a certain fragrance, especially if you’re a freak like all of you :D

Well, that’s it for now. I wish you all a nice evening and see you next time :)

Drowning - An Idea of Nature
This fragrance is a space opener. One that gives me expansiveness. It allows me to breathe and come to myself. I feel enveloped by nature, but yet more.

Actually, it’s a shame to analyze this fragrance too closely, as I often find that doing so takes away some of its allure and imagination. However, for a better understanding, I will still attempt it.

It is characterized mainly by three traits: a dominant base of alluring musk and a fantastically balsamic amber note, a sea salt note, and a beautiful, natural, woody-spicy etheric quality, reminiscent of pine forests in midsummer. The fluffy softness and balsamic-silky purity of the musk-amber combination cushions this etheric quality, embedding it properly and carrying it lightly and ethereally. The effect creates the feeling of expansiveness combined with a sense of security and calm described above. This is interwoven with a restrained salt note, giving the fragrance a strong closeness to nature and immediacy. Synthetic ambrox can be detected, but it is well-balanced and adds a stimulating spiciness. The effect on me is very intense and impressive.

With this fragrance, I could be at the end of my scent journey, as my secret favorites are aquatic scents. So far, in the years of my journey, I have only found a very few that I can wear and none that have stayed with me for a longer time. This one could achieve that. Perhaps it’s because it’s not a pure aquatic, but carries characteristics of one (sea salt, etheric quality). I would classify it in the aquatic-balsamic-woody direction. A rare combination that works. The fragrance is rather dry, even though it contains a subtly moist nuance, and is entirely unsweetened except for a minimal musk sweetness.

To describe the fragrance with an image, I would choose the following: The scent initially smells like the fresh, moist air in the morning just before reaching the sea, already soaked with salt and the spicy-etheric scent of the pine forest. Shortly thereafter, it resembles clean, invigorating sunscreen skin, and later like the alluring, warm, intimate skin scent after a long day at the beach, with a blend of sun, salt, cream, and something earthy, deeply satisfying, spicy-woody. Additionally, the radiant-balsamic amber note carries this feeling of the infinity of nature. This elevates the fragrance from a mundane wood aquatic, making it no longer a pure reflection of nature, but pointing beyond to something greater. An idea in the direction of perfection.

The components I perceive most clearly complement each other so well and are balanced in such a beautiful ratio that I wish for no change. There is nothing too little and, above all, nothing too much present. The fragrance accompanies me almost all day and only slowly diminishes in intensity. Although it certainly consists mostly of synthetic components, I do not sense any unpleasant, disruptive artificiality; rather, it somehow fits this partially abstract image of a nature and skin feeling. It is enduring, but in a pleasantly restrained way.

I am thrilled by this fragrance and it leaves me in awe. I rarely have fragrances that evoke a wow effect in me and can maintain it. This one is one of the very few. I could drown in him.

After a summer of wearing it, I unfortunately have to temper my initial enthusiasm. The opening is still fantastic and the best aquatic opening I have encountered so far. However, I now find the relatively quickly emerging creamy amber-musk-ambrox combination hard to bear. It is too much and too overwhelming for me, overpowering the finer salty, etheric, and woody tones too strongly. I now perceive it as aggressively clean-ambrox-creamy. Therefore, I am reducing my original rating from 10.0 quite radically to 7.0.

a symphony of sun and flora
She has done it again, pressing nature into a little bottle. I can clearly see how the sun draws out the spice from nature and makes it visible with a gentle breeze. This fragrance has a fine spiciness, marked by incense and the scent of trees. On top of that, there’s a kick of freshness that suggests, oh, someone is nearby. At the same time, the scent is beautifully rounded and harmonious, so well-balanced that it makes it difficult to assign it to a specific fragrance. My clear recommendation is to wear it on days when the sun is dominant, but it’s not scorching hot; it’s optimal if a gentle breeze is blowing as well. Thank you, Mackenzie, I’m sticking with you! ;-)
