Soft Steamed Rice
One day as I was steaming jasmine rice in my rice cooker, the aroma seemed more fragrant than ever before and I wished to capture that scent in a bottle. Even my roommate, returning home, asked what smelled so good and with wonder, I replied the rice. Ever since, I have been on the hunt for the perfect rice fragrance to recreate that experience, and I have finally found it in White Rice.

Everything I wanted Diptyque's Papier to be, White Rice opens with a photorealistic sweet sticky rice scent, as in the mango sticky rice dessert with coconut milk and toasted sesame (though no mango itself is present). As it settles, it gives the gorgeous true steamed rice smell, exactly the vibe of the rice cooker aroma that was so sweetly captivating. After a while, the rice note lifts to reveal delicate white florals, finally leaving behind only a comforting skin musk. It has no surprising complexity to reveal, but I find it somehow soothing in its simplicity.

My one complaint with this fragrance is the longevity; I find it is ephemeral on my skin. A light application was gone within an hour or so, while an overspray resulted in a pleasant aura of the scent noticeable with slight movements for around three hours before all but disappearing except a faint musk at closest sniff. I prefer light sillage but this scent is extremely close.
