Derek Lam
Just as I began to feel inhibited by regularity, something intriguing arrived. The Derek Lam 10 Crosby Collection. Ten white cylinders, with a surprise that awaits within the padded interior. These simplistic, delicate bottles don't exactly compete with packaging from designers such as Marc Jacobs or Jimmy Choo's Venetian cut glass. However, the story of mystery and allure lies within Derek Lam's modern, slender bottles. While there are 10 fragrances available, I'd like to focus on the 3 I found most fascinating.
"Drunk On Youth", a seamless blend of apple, honeysuckle and perhaps a hidden champagne note? This one leans feminine with a fun and flirtatious feel. It smells like an adventure or a spontaneous night out, one that I might like to be a part of.
"Something Wild", cedar and Madagascan vanilla. This is a deeper impression. For those intimidated by vanilla, what you must understand is that natural vanilla is not candy-sweet, but subtle-sweet. Kilian Hennessy blames Bath & Body Works for the demise of perfume. Without hesitation, I must say that I agree. For years, they have portrayed wrong impressions of different essences. There is something surreal and intimate about "Something Wild". Between the notes of cedar and vanilla, one compliments the other. Never becoming too sweet or too woodsy, making it well rounded and perfectly unisex.
"2AM Kiss", salty wood and amber. A full bodied interpretation of sensuality. A 2AM kiss I can relate to. Lipstick, perfume and sweat. A sultry, humid amber like that of Tom Ford Amber Absolute, only burning red hot. If you could smell arousal and body heat, I'd be compelled to add them to the note pyramid. There is passion and power in this fragrance that does not exist in the other 9, but together equal an adventure worth taking.
This is how Derek Lam's 10 Crosby fragrances have effected me. How will they effect you?
Who is Derek Lam anyway? I sense that many of you may be curious. He is a successful designer among many others, but what makes him stand apart from the rest is his prodigious resume.
Derek Lam was not only employed by Michael Kors, but became the Vice President of design. In 2003, he began his very own luxury line of clothes, shoes and accessories.
Adele was featured on the front page of Time Magazine just before 2016 wearing a Derek Lam Kimono coat.
His style tends to be chic, modern and sophisticated. The new 10 Crosby fragrance collection certainly reflects his outlook on fashion.
