Discovery Sets: Kilian - Cellars Mini Discovery Set

I bought this discovery set of the house of Kilian in an outlet store. It cost me €17 and contains 1.5ml / 0.05oz sprayers of the following perfumes:

- Angels' Share
- Black Phantom - Memento Mori
- Sacred Wood
- Intoxicated
- Straight to Heaven, White Cristal Perfume

When I saw these tiny cardboard boxes I was kind of surprised. I wasn’t very familiar with Kilian but I knew they were aiming quite high pricewise. A bit more of a luxurious appearance was expected. The whole box is cardboard, with a couple of sticky tapes on each side. The sprayers are also quite cheap, when sprayed they leak a littlebit and it gets all over your hands. Ah well, it has quite some fragrances I’m interested in so buying it was a no-brainer.

To be honest this is a very weird selection. It's called "The cellars" but it contains four fragrances from that line and one from the "The liquors" line. That one being Angel's Share so you don't hear me complaining. But of course it would have made much more sense it these were all Cellars, and that there would be an alternative discovery set for the liquors.

Anyway, on with the goods!
Angel's Share
When you think Kilian, you think Angel's Share, right? And rightfully so. Like Creed's Aventus, this one is copied and duped a 1000 times but none of them match the original. Kilian is apparently the heir of a cognac making family, so this cognac-based perfume is one of his most personal perfumes. It's warm, sweet, seducing. You just get a good fuzzy feeling from within, just as if you're drinking a good glass of cognac. The cinnamon tames it down, and gives it a christmassy, apple-tarty vibe.
Black Phantom
This is a rum and coffee based perfume but it's far from gourmand. It's got a woody base and apparently it's got a cyanide note. Yikes!
Sacred Wood
A creamy, typical sandalwood smell. It's not overpowering, rather lingering. I don't mind, as I associate sandalwood with scented candles a littlebit.
Intoxicated
Well this is just a cardamom bomb. It has a lot of fans and my son has even confiscated this one from me. But I'm not a fan and let's keep it at that. Cardamom belongs in food! lol
Straight to Heaven

This is my favorite from the set. I'm a sucker for patchouli. It's so darn nice, damp, earthy, a bit funky. It reminds me a bit of the opening of Aventus. Just one con: The perfume smell is just so faint! Argh! It doesn't project and it doesn't last.

So yeah it didn't cost the world and that's exactly what the presentation made clear. The most luxurious thing about it is the gold embossing in the box. The perfumes are high quality though and I enjoyed them a lot. It made me curious about other perfumes from Kilian as well, like their Fièvre Verte (based on absinth). All in all, I'd highly recommend this set if you're not very familiar with Kilian and you want to dip your toes in.

Are you just as big a fan of discovery sets as I am? Which houses do you recommend? Which ones do you have, or are on your wish-list? Please let me know!

Which outlet do you shop at? I never find Killian bargains for 17 euro :-(

Interesting about Straight to Heaven. Want to try it but am surprised it didn't last for you. There used to be an Extreme version but it's discontinued.

I was looking for a cheaper alternative and I ran into Ursa by Tiziana, which you reviewed some time ago. I hope you like Straight to Heaven better when you get to smell it!

@Ceesie messy Killian samples, indifferent presentation of the kit of samples. Noone expects this from Killian. To be honest very few Killians I really liked, one of them is Back to Black
