A new Signature Fragrance is born
It must have been in 1993, I was strolling through our little town and ended up
in our small perfumery.
Even back then, I was interested in and fascinated by fragrances. Years before, I had
diligently collected perfume samples and had a huge jar full of them.
Years later, I foolishly threw them all away. Today, I regret it
because there were some treasures among them that are no longer produced, including
many minis. Annoying, but that's just how it is...
So on that day, I went to the perfumery and sought advice. Nothing blew me away
that day. Then I discovered a bright red packaging. It
immediately caught my eye. Otto Kern - Cycle
Bammm... that's exactly it. What a wonderful fragrance. Took it home and loved it. For the next
few years, I hardly used any other fragrance. I had found the perfect signature scent.
That lasted until it was eventually discontinued and suddenly disappeared from the market
very quickly. Back then, there was no: Quickly secure a few bottles online ;-)
In a flash, it was gone.
Many years have passed since then. I have tested a lot. Then Parfumo came along at some point.
I tested even more. There were good and even very good fragrances, but none that
I could say could replace my beloved Cycle as a signature.
But now, after such a long time, I finally have a signature fragrance again. And just to be clear,
Ferragamo Uomo does not smell like Cycle at all. It has just become my new signature scent after years.
I want to keep the description of the fragrance brief. I have never smelled anything like this
before. That makes it so unique.
FU starts with 2 components: Tiramisu and orange blossom.
A wonderful mix. If cocoa or coffee had been listed, I would have signed off on that too. Orange blossom is usually very difficult for me. I don't like it in many
fragrances because it is often overpowering and masks many things. Here it's different, it
beautifully melds into the other components.
In the background, there is something slightly woody and cardamom.
The fragrance pyramid appealed to me from the start, and FU smells even better than
I had imagined.
Longevity and sillage could definitely be a bit better, but for me, it’s just right.
Not a powerhouse, but it lasts 7 hours on my skin.
A wonderful fragrance that deserves to be tested!
My new Signature :-)

Balm for the Soul
Wow! I expected a good scent, maybe even a very good one...
But it has become something even more.
Grand Soir fascinates me like no other fragrance has in a long time.
First of all, thanks to our user "Mantus" for providing me with his decant
:-)
Grand Soir is for me a balm for the soul and at the same time pure energy.
It starts balsamic/creamy thanks to the labdanum, almost reminiscent of honey.
Since Siam Benzoin also has a balsamic quality, this effect is likely enhanced.
Somehow, there is a chocolate note in the background, but a very high-quality dark bittersweet chocolate.
Additionally, it is supported by tonka and vanilla, which complement each other
wonderfully. The fragrance is rounded out even more by this.
The components are perfectly harmonized, creating a slightly resinous, balsamic vanilla scent. A dream!
The color of the liquid also fits perfectly. Labdanum and benzoin....
2 resins. That's exactly how I would choose the color. Everything just fits here.
I rate the sillage and longevity both with an 8, as Grand Soir also plays in a higher league here.
Unfortunately, it also plays in such a league when it comes to price. But it
is worth every cent.
I hope I could bring you a little closer to the scent. Test it.
It is so delicious and especially addictive :-)
For me, it is the perfect going-out fragrance for the weekend, although you
can wear it anytime. But for me, it is particularly great for
special occasions.
Lastly, here’s a sentence I recently googled about amber, which is also part of this fragrance. I think this sentence nicely wraps up this comment:
Amber: Awakens the longing for the sea, from which all life
has emerged.....
In this sense :-)
Addendum 12.2.2017: The longevity gets a clear 10. It is still very
noticeable the next day. Great..!

Love at the Twelfth Sniff
I actually didn't have the scent on my radar at all.
It had been lingering in my wishlist for a while.
Then I finally ordered a sample...to be honest
with little expectation.
I sprayed it on and...uhm, well. It's okay, but I think it's not
really my thing.
So off to work...late shift...with 2 sprays on my arm.
In the car, I quickly reassured myself...Well, the scent is okay. I think
I can cross it off my wishlist later.
So I rushed into work.
Then after an hour, I wondered what smelled so good. Is that me?
Nooo...or??
Is it coming from my forearm???
Oh yes, it's coming from my forearm! How great does that smell??
I think I sniffed my forearm about 30-40 times in the next 2 hours.
It was immediately clear - I'm buying this.
Let's take a look at the pyramid: coconut, vanilla, wood. Well...I can't
really agree with that. Melon for sure. But a, I would say, sour melon. Very refreshing.
Actually, I don't like melon in men's fragrances (aside from Calvin
Klein's Escape) but this one is really great and definitely wearable for men.
The scent really lifts my mood.
The longevity on my skin is remarkable. After 8 hours, it's almost still
as present as at the beginning.
A scent that really surprised me. It will definitely shine in
spring and summer. But in my opinion, it's still a
year-round fragrance.
So to all melon haters: Dare to try it! Awesome stuff!

When Adidas was still German Champion
Yes, I admit it: The old version was a bit better. But I have to say that the
current Coty version is still very good.
I myself wore Active Bodies in my teenage years. I read about Eau de Umkleide
here... and yes, this scent reminds me of that too. Maybe because I used it
after gym class.
Entire locker rooms could be filled with this sillage. And today? Surely
it has become a bit weaker, but the scent still "lingers" in the room for a
longer time.
I had Active Bodies on my wishlist for quite a while, but I hesitated
because of some comments. Was the scent really that neutered??
Was it changed so much? No, in my opinion, not. I know both versions
now. It still reminds me of the past.
Moreover, I have to say that AB is also, like Fahrenheit for example, a sillage scent. Sure, you can spray it on and sniff your arm, but its true potential only unfolds through the sillage.
Test it yourself by spraying it in a room, leaving the room briefly, and then
re-entering. This scent is wonderful...
As I said, AB is still room-filling and the longevity for me is 10h+.
What more could you want??
Then I read here... typical 90s. I think that can also be imagined.
For me, this scent is timeless.
Additionally, it reminds me a bit of Dsquared’s Potion. And that one has a
miserable longevity & sillage. Maybe fans of this scent
should test Active Bodies.
Moreover, it costs a ridiculous 20€/100ml
And how does it smell now? For me, there are 2 attributes: Spicy & masculine
Yes..... those were the days when drugstore fragrances were still big in Europe and
FC ADIDAS was the German Champion.....

A Day at the Sea
I tested Atlantique almost in passing in the middle of the year.
Somehow I always thought....Sauvage
But I have to revise that. What it has in common with Sauvage
is this incredibly great freshness.
I have been looking for a scent for a while that makes me smell like I just
stepped out of the shower. With Bvlgari Atlantiqve, I found it.
And once again. BA does not smell like Sauvage... No, it smells about 80%
like Aqva Amara. Amara is an amazing scent, but I was a bit bothered by this
"bitterness" of the mandarin.
With Atlantiqve, everything is a bit fresher and more balanced.
BA smells like summer. One might think you are standing right by the sea
on a cliff and breathing in fresh sea air. Really well done.
For everyone who is sad that Amara has been discontinued, try this one. I am
sure it will not disappoint you.
Longevity and sillage are really decent for a fresh scent.
The bottle has a really nice blue and is an eye-catcher. However,
you can only lay it down. Something different.
If you want to bring back your seaside vacation, or just
want to smell fresh, well-groomed, and like you just stepped out of the shower,
then get it. A great thing that unfortunately gets little attention here so far.
