Between Sea Salt and Moss: “Atlantis” by Contes de Parfums

With the highly concentrated unisex fragrance “Atlantis” from the new “Timeless Cities Collection,” Contes de Parfums presents a maritime, woody interpretation of the legendary sunken city.

From this distant echo emerged a fragrance that takes you on a sensual journey: the mineral freshness of a sea salt accord evokes forgotten temples; damp moss creates a vibrant, earthy texture; while Virginia cedarwood builds a woody bridge between legend and reality.

“Atlantis” opens with notes of seaweed, sea salt, and saffron, which lend the fragrance salty, maritime, and spicy facets. At the heart, earthy cypriol and damp moss meet Jasminum auriculatum absolute, which provides a floral contrast to the composition. Ambroxan and musk, together with Virginia cedar, ultimately lead the fragrance to a dry, warm, woody finish.

For the fragrance, the label collaborated with Jean-Christophe Hérault, who had previously created “Sevilla” for the original “Cities Collection.” The French perfumer was exposed to the industry at an early age, as his father worked for a bottler in Grasse. Later, Hérault trained to become a perfumer himself.

A Sunken City as Inspiration

The legend of Atlantis, that mythical civilization said to have sunk into the sea, served as the inspiration for this creation. A sea salt accord is meant to evoke the mineral freshness of sunken temples, while moss and Virginia cedar lend the fragrance an earthy and woody depth.

With the Extrait de Parfum, Contes de Parfums is launching the new “Timeless Cities Collection,” which is dedicated to the history and atmosphere of legendary civilizations and ancient cultures. In addition to “Atlantis,” the collection includes, among others, “Babylon”, “Samarkand” and “Angkor” are part of the line.
