Fruit, Coffee, and Soft Oud: “Polite Oud” by Widian

Widian

Notes of apple, orange, peach, and plum set the tone at the opening with fruity, sweet-and-tart accents. This gives way to a floral heart of rose, white blossoms, and other floral accords, interwoven with the warm, roasted aromas of coffee. In the base, balsamic and woody notes blend with musk and vanilla to create a warm, creamy-sweet finish. 

“Polite Oud” was developed by perfumers Hamid Merati-Kashani and Honorine Blanc.

A Softer Interpretation of Oud

The name “Polite Oud” already hints at the concept behind the creation: Here, oud is not presented from its dark, smoky side, but rather embedded in fruity and floral notes, along with the creamy warmth of musk and vanilla.

This unisex fragrance was created in collaboration with the London department store Harrods. This connection is also reflected in the design: a gold-colored illustration of the Harrods facade adorns the emerald-green bottle.

In its fragrances, Widian blends influences from the Arab perfumery tradition with a modern, internationally oriented style. The company, founded by Ali Aljaberi, frequently draws inspiration from the landscape, architecture, and culture of Abu Dhabi.  The brand name also reflects this connection: “Widian” is derived from the Arabic word for “valleys,” while the curved bottles are intended to evoke, among other things, the architecture of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque.
