Cannot deny its greatness
Tried and true, this fragrance has been the backbone of many unbearably warm days and is simply a stunner. While its DNA is not ground breaking nor is its style pushing any boundaries, it stands confidently on its own within this genre through having its own identity. Olivier Cresp has created a wonderful, long lasting for its class, and highly versatile fragrance.
The rationale behind the title is that I received a sample and a decant of this fragrance long ago and I really liked it initially but never sprung for a bottle as I had sights on other fragrances at the time. In that time thereafter, I purchased other fragrances but always found myself craving Sedley and finding numerous situations to use it. I was attracted to using the scent on scorching hot days, a casual meet-up with friends, dates, and excursions. No matter what, especially in the heat, it shined. When given heat and summer type weather, it truly stretches its legs and fully develops. It just always at the back of my mind and hence, once I found a good deal I could not pass up grabbing a bottle for myself.
It is both fresh and transparent, whilst simultaneously being very present and enveloping in an airy manner. Spearmint, citruses, and a soft base of ambroxan, clear woods, and cashmeran create an scent that is invigorating, refreshing, and inviting. As alluded to above, my experience is with a 2020 batch and my performance has been very good for a fresh fragrance. It is not a beast, but relative to what it is offering I would argue that is it above average within this category of olfactive profiles.
A great strength of Sedley is its flexibility of character, it can be sporty, casual chic, or outgoing. Although it is better suited to more casual situations, that is where I find it shines best.
Parfums de Marly have been said that they are weak in creating fresh fragrances and that their strength is in their winter offerings. I simply offer the counterargument of Sedley and ask others to consider their creation. Simplicity done right.

Winter Nights in London
From the first moment I smelled this, it has been nothing but amazing. I thought ‘wow this is good’ the first instant I smelled Alexandria ii. I have a very specific scent memory attached to this fragrance and that is when I visited my brother in London in late October when it was very cold. When we went out in the evening in the bitter cold I could smell Alexandria ii strongly and confidently and it had a sense of sophistication in the air. It truly embodies night life as it is both playful yet sophisticated, loud yet not being annoying, and unique whilst not being too daring to be unwearable. Hence, its DNA is highly unique and frankly, for the price it better be. Alexandria ii is only rightly paired with either going out or formal attire.
I find that there are numerous reasons for loving this fragrance, but one of them that became apparent quickly was the complexity of the fragrance. I find it difficult to describe such a composition, but I will attempt to: It opens fruity with a fresh and sweet green apple with a prominent lavender note dancing around the other notes. Woody components already make themselves prominent at this stage, and throughout the entire duration of the fragrance it smells entirely unique. This cinnamon, apple, woods, and lavender combination is simply amazing.
No composition that I have smelled has come close to this. In the latter stages of its life, it embodies a deeper, darker, woodiness and at times lightly animalic touches. A lovely fresh rose swirls around the other notes, adding lift to the composition. These aspects make themselves the main player, though the notes from the start of Alexandria ii are still present. It is not for all and is definitely not a safe blind buy. Throughout this experience you can truly detect the quality of the ingredients. Many say Xerjoff uses high quality ingredients and this is no exception. This is shown through the depth and complexity of the fragrance.
Another clear characteristic of Alexandria ii that I alluded to above is its performance. It stays on clothes forever and clings onto the skin for 18 hours plus on my skin. It’s the type of fragrance where I have caught whiffs of it the day after wearing. Last but certainly not least, the bottle is truly a piece of art and feels of high quality. This fragrance does not adhere to any gender, rather to the personality of the wearer.
