Unforgettable - and radical.
Jean-Claude Ellena's last perfume for Hermes, what will it be like?
So I had the scent "shown" to me, and indeed, I saw more than I smelled. So vivid, so plastic, so dry, so - leather... parched leather, creaking leather in the sun, leather stored in an old, fragrant wooden box as well. I don't necessarily like leather scents, but this? This is a fragrance that transcends my preferences and taste. Nothing comforting, sweet, or soft, but spatial, tangible, a memory of summer, a heat that had to be endured, but becomes somewhat reconciliatory in the evening's mildness. A second skin, an impossible skin, ancient and brand new.
One could say the scent is too naturalistic, too much a olfactory imitation of the leathery or leather-like. But we will surely get a few imitations of it in the future, and the perfumer may be hated or loved for this perfume - but he will not be forgotten.
I can't really rate Cuir d'Ange, but I can only find it very astonishing and very compelling, in a way also intelligent and bright and of very fragile beauty - and that would then be the highest rating, right?
