Much more floral on the skin
Opening minute is pretty dirty with how it comes across. Between the the ylang-ylang influence and champaca opening, I get why people might get put off by it. That does clear out pretty fast, for me at least.
The ylang-ylang initially has its earthier aroma going for it, but then starts to take on its more banana-like scent. The champaca here, really comes across as an orange flower note, at least a few minutes in. With those two and the vanilla, there plastic/rubbery tinge to this scent.
Much more floral on the skin. Like a tropical flower smell, once that initial dirtiness wears off. The vanilla seems like one part of a triad on the skin, whereas it feels more dominant early on, when sprayed on clothes.
Actually on clothes, this has a classier Le Male vibe to it, that same fuzzy spice (sans mint/cinnamon). Strange.
Eventually, both on skin and clothes it becomes very much the same. Still, an early divergence.
More of a light champaca, ylang-ylang with a definite sweetness, vanilla, and amber especially. The vanilla isn’t pure creamy vanilla either. Leans that way with the sandalwood influence but Vanille de Tahiti does have a musky/powdery undertone throughout.
The dry down for me is a rather simple aroma of a naturalistic vanilla, amber, and sandalwood. It’s creamier at this point, still a lovely sweetness without being sickly, and this Perris perfume has a nice balance.
Overall, do I like this perfume?
Yes, I actually kind of love it. I knew nothing of this fragrance when I received it, but it’s won me over.
The opening minutes almost made me doubt, but it is a beautiful scent, once I’m past that. Even still, it’s nothing all that bad.
I guess there are some people who get a dirty or toilet type of smell for a long duration. Not the case for me, it’s more just a dirty floral scent for a brief time.
That’s probably going to stop me from giving this a total buy recommendation. I’d say for sure try, if you can before you commit. It’d be disappointing to find out you’re one of those people, who it smells terrible on, after splurging on a fully bottle.
The sandalwood, vanilla, and amber dry down is awesome. With the remaining floral notes floating around, it’s very enjoyable.

Wow wow
Sur la Lagune certainly has an interesting start. A very blue-ish style sea notes, which is more of a general freshness than the ocean itself. It actually sort of reminds me of how the men’s fragrance Luna Rossa Ocean starts.
Except this one is way fresher in how it comes across and has a strong magnolia note, right from the get go. But, even stronger at the beginning is the Madonna lily. That’s already a powerful floral note, with the blueish notes backing it, the flower seems massive.
It comes across as kind of powdery within that watery vibe, which is why it reminds me of the Prada cologne.
Pittosporum is apparently a type of shrub that produces an aroma similar to orange blossom. I do pick up something similar in smell to orange blossom. Not too strong, I don’t really have an experience with this note, but that’s as close as I can get.
As this dries down, it’s a white floral soapy aroma. Very clean with a bit of dry wood in the base, some salt, and just a generally cool feeling. Fresh soap bar is what I’m left with.

Opens with a fresh mix of its various trees and fruits
Pear and apple trees along with magnolia. It’s a very sharp start to the mix. The apple is much more intense than that pear note and the underlying woody notes really pop.
Aside from the fruit trees, the other two stand outs are some dewy grass and the magnolia. This isn’t a completely floral fragrance, but lots of magnolia early on. Then, that’ll fade and you’ll get some rose thereafter…just not a ton.
The apple and pear with the freshness and watery aspect, does kind of come across as being shampoo-like, after that initial blast fades.
Also, the ‘tree’ notes really start to lose any woodiness, as it dries down. Kind of weird. More of a dewy grass with fruits and some rose. But the pear and apple tree notes are just the fruity smell than branch and all.
Not that it was too woody to begin with. But, that freshness was there.

Just freshie
Un Jardin Sur Le Nil starts off sharp, fresh, yet with a greenish/vegetal aroma. The mango and grapefruit are dominant on first contact with the skin. Tropical and then a layer of citrus, which will reverse when the grapefruit takes over for the fading mango.
It’s interesting to have those fruit notes blended with a mix of earthy and aquatic smelling notes wafting from the heart and base. Tomato leaf is a big player here, along with the lotus, which is the strongest floral note at first.
‘A garden on the Nile’ is what the name translates to and like the others in this Hermes series, it does indeed capture what that might smell like.
As the mango takes a step back, this one gets earthier and more floral. It’s more of a cycle of the floral notes. Early lotus, then hyacinth giving it a slightly sweet green feeling, and then its a bit powdery in the dry down with iris.
It’s still clean and somewhat aquatic, but a lot of the green vegetal aroma will pass. Less tomato leaf, lotus, and the mango.
More of a citrus floral, musk, sycamore, and maybe a touch of incense. Not really something that I pick up a lot of.

Anyway, on to how it smells.
Cruz del Sur II opens with it’s tropical fruits on full display. Mango is going to be the strongest here, so, know that before you decide to buy.
But, the other fruits sort of combine into more of a amalgamation of aromas. What this smells like to me is a glass of orange juice infused with mango juice. Kind of sharp, but nice enough.
However, that fruit juice cocktail is then spiked with milk. Coming into testing, I was thinking that this would just be a creamy finish, much like Sunset Fantasy by Britney Spears. Just a unisex and more tropical fruit version. That Britney note is ‘frothed milk’.
Nope, it’s actually the smell of milk. Not terrible, put kind of weird, and I’m not too enthralled by Cruz II in its early stages.
But, this does begin to shift into something that is less milky and almost a vanilla/powdery undertone to it. Maybe more like a milkshake and less like a glass of milk, is a way to put it.
The orange juice like smell kind of fades. The mango comes into its own. You have some musk and non-distinct floral notes that probably give this that slight bit of powder, that I am picking up on.
Outside of that, there is really only a little bit of wood popping through. Mango, the fruits toned down, the milky/vanilla/powder, and some musk.
