Quitting my perfume hobby

Tale as old as time: one day, I tallied up the amount of money I had spent this year on perfume bottles and samples. Naturally, I was horrified by the total. It has the making of a rejected Smiths song: “I wanted to see how much I spent, and then I saw how much I spent. And heaven knows I’m miserable now.”

So, what do we do when we’re miserable? We change the situation. We turn things around. 

There’s a joke in Family Guy that both perfectly and imperfectly incapsulates how I’ve been feeling all week. Many of you might even remember this part: Lois wants to stop doing something. I forget what it was, but it must have been important to Peter, because at the news of this, he exclaims to his wife  “but what if Kurt Cobain had quit?!!” (I’m paraphrasing, but you get the point). The scene then cuts away to Kurt Cobain on stage at the end of a Nirvana concert. He calls out to his fans, something like “Thank you, thank you! And remember, don’t do drugs!” The cutaway then goes on to make a little jab at Courtney Love, but that isn’t relevant (nor accurate, in my opinion!) because the big picture of the joke is that quitting can actually be a good thing. I’m currently a student with a part time job. I like having money. That’s more important to me than any perfume. (It also doesn’t help to be humbled on those days where you accidentally put too much on and only realize it after you’re on public transit during rush hour!)

Call me a laundromat, because it’s time for change! Change, I tell you, change! And by change I mean just taking a nice break from any social media related to perfume and using up/gifting nearly everything I have before I purchase anything else.

That being said, I like the people on here. I’ll probably pop in every couple months to update my collections.
