Format change discussions

A few weeks back we made some changes to the voting to include a section for "skipping a week", but a lot of people have been expressing a sense of exhaustion again because since the introduction, we've still been doing a theme a week for 5 days.  We have tried to encourage being pretty open about participating, but I still get the sense that it's a little too much for a lot of people.  I wanted to mediate a discussion to get peoples' thoughts on the best way to go forward to keep interest high without people feeling pressured to participate, or maybe wanting more time to get/trade for samples for a particular theme.

Suggestions I've seen so far are just doing every other week by default (per @nightflights) or just doing a themed day each week (per @Ihwayne).  Those aren't the only options, just the ones I remembered reading in the shout outs this week.  I'm eager to hear other suggestions (or maybe you think the current way TotW operates is fine) and reach a consensus that keeps this fun and engaging. 🙂

EDIT: Based on everyone's feedback here, it seems like there's a concensus to just do every other week.

I feel like people are putting pressure on themselves for no reason. E.g. iris week means it'd be nice to wear iris - it doesn't have to be every single day, nor iris-centric perfumes only (supportive role as in Grey Flannel Eau de Toilette is fine). Basically, take your own approach and participate as much as you want.

I also think doing it every other week is a great idea - people with bigger collections are given more freedom to wear their neglected pieces and people with smaller collections are given more time to accumulate samples and/or plan trips to department stores.

But overall, a themed week is exactly what you want it to be, there are no stakes or ground rules.

I agree! I only suggested every other week so I can order samples in time to participate 😈

Fully agreed with @CivetOnly. I get the sense folks are turning it into an assignment unnecessarily.

I also think that mixing in non-note themes could help it feel more flexible.

I'll definitely be incorporating more of the creative  suggestions from the other thread the next time I run the randomizer.

I agree with @nightflights. I like the idea of every other week especially for sample ordering reasons. My collection is pretty small and very citrus heavy. For tea week I even ran out to my local niche store for a few options.
I'm not viewing it as an assignment so much as that I'm definitely newer to the hobby and using the theme for discovery. Maybe Iris isn't really my favorite, but I've also pretty much only tested one or two fragrances that really highlight it. It's really nice to have passionate folks sharing what they plan to wear and what they're excited about. Themes not related directly to notes like @2shainz mentioned would also be cool with me :D

Ah, I see what you mean. I think, in that case, it's totally OK to try a fragrance or two (or whatever you have!) and not do a full week. Or, if you don't have any perfumes with that note or hate the note, just enjoy reading what other people are saying and/or find recs. :)

I suppose what I meant by "assignment" is that people seem to think they must wear a fitting fragrance every day in order to really participate, and I don't think that's true. I just have a silly number of samples and so often do have enough variety to do M-F. 🙃
