Dlane1953:
Dlane1953:
We, the Drowned by Carsten Jensen.

This is a hard, harsh book set in Denmark 100 years ago, a sea-faring island full of rough men with harsh fates ahead of them. Now and then I wish my taste ran more toward the Disney stories that leave you smiling with that special inane smile reserved for the feeble minded. Sigh. But I'd rather taste bitter reality than taste the sachharine sweetness that is "invented" life so I move on and hope for sweet dreams in spite of it..a well written book.

Interesting! Have you ever read Joseph Campbell's The Power of Myth, Dlane? It's all about the importance and role of folklore, fairy tales and myth in society. You might enjoy it. My favorite fairy tales are the ones written by Oscar Wilde. Beautiful and heartbreaking.

I love Possession and just about everything else by A. S. Byatt.

Right now I'm reading everything I can get my hands on about Ludwig Leichhardt, a German explorer who disappeared in the Australian interior in 1848. What happened to he and his party is still a mystery.
