Hidden designer fragrances gems

Hidden designer fragrances gems 1

Hi everyone!

Title might be a little excessive but here's my point.

Recently I took a little detour to a Sephora store to sample some fragrances I hadn't discovered yet.

There I gave a sniff at M7 (2011) / M7 Oud AbsoluM7 (2011) and I was surprised that such a beautiful scent wasn't more popular!

And so I wonder: do you know of other fragrances released by designer brands, that are less spoken and underrated?

Pierre Cardin's Fusion is very nice. A bit weak, but since it's so cheap, one can overspray/reapply.  It's not in the database here.  The small, 50 ml bottle is only $7 from a discounter in the US. The bottle looks like something out of a 70's sci-fi movie. I was almost shocked at how good it smells, made in France, cool bottle and so cheap. Hardly anyone knows about it.

Rochas Man (Eau de Toilette)Rochas Man Eau de Toilette is still wonderful and relevant as of today + it's very inexpensive.

Do designers private collections count? If so, then I would go for Armani Privé - Figuier EdenArmani Privé - Figuier Eden

Rochas is so underrated

Maybe not hidden but something which is just considered as women's perfume but is totally unisex:

Coco (Eau de Toilette)Coco Eau de Toilette

Coco (Eau de Parfum)Coco Eau de Parfum

Coco (Parfum)Coco Parfum

The quality and the complexity is amazing. All niche collectors as well should know this masterpiece. I have a vintage edt and extrait. I tried new versions as well and they are good. There is a little bit difference between eat and edp, not only in concentration. Extrait de parfum is out of this world.

Wow, the bottle design is very excentric, indeed! I will have to give that a try. How did you discover this brand?

Oh I definitely noticed the bottle, as it is atypic. I'll try it next time, thanks!

I love all perfumes regardless of marketed gender, and hadn't considered trying Coco. Thanks!

Oh fig scents can get soooo good. I'll try it if I manage to find it in a store ☺️

@Riviael, it's an old house, not doing much, I think, since its founder, Pierre Cardin, died in 2020. The first fragrance in that style of bottle was released in 1972, Pour Monsieur / Man's Cologne (Eau de Toilette)Pour Monsieur Eau de Toilette . It's much better known than Fusion (and is in the database here). It's a very good 70's/80's style masculine and still in production, not expensive. I got a sample of it and liked it. When I went to the discounter website to buy a bottle, I searched for Pierre Cardin. I saw Fusion and bought it too as a blind buy and am very pleased with it. Pour Monsieur is an EdT. There is also a Cologne available but it's probably pretty weak.

There's also another easily available and cheap, Bleu Marine pour Lui (Eau de Toilette)Bleu Marine pour Lui Eau de Toilette . From the reviews I've read, it's not very good so I haven't bothered with it. Apparently it has been significantly reformulated.

You've given me an idea for a new post! Coming right up.

A gem to me would be something affordable and smells really good, and here are some good designer gems:

1. For Him Vetiver Musk from Narciso Rodriguez

2. Bois Mystique from Houbigant

3. Colonia C.L.U.B by Acqua de Parma

4. Tabac Vert & Bon Monsieur from Rouge (not a designer house but a notable mention due to the price and quality)

Brioni (Eau de Parfum) (2021)Brioni (2021) Eau de Parfum is amazing and it can be had for like $35. I'm really not sure why no one talks about it. Light airy slightly sweet violet, woods, and musk. The flankers aren't bad either.

The entire Dunhill Signature collection is great but I’m a big fan of the wonderful powdery woody

Signature Collection - Indian SandalwoodSignature Collection - Indian Sandalwood

I’m quite amazed that these aren’t talked about more often.

Highest scores go to Signature Collection - Agar WoodSignature Collection - Agar Wood, Signature Collection - Egyptian SmokeSignature Collection - Egyptian Smoke and Signature Collection - Mongolian CashmereSignature Collection - Mongolian Cashmere I believe. They’re definitely on my wish list.

I really like PerfectPerfect. It's mass appealing enough to be worn anywhere but feels different to the ubiquitous florals and gourmands marketed to women that seem to dominate department store displays.

I don't understand why Versace pour Femme Dylan Purple (Eau de Parfum)Versace pour Femme Dylan Purple Eau de Parfum never took off well. I fair few people tried it, sure, but it's like no one wears it. It's so beautiful and fresh- a shampoo smell but not a fruity kids shampoo. Like an expensive luxury one.

Surprisingly good, not in many wardrobes: AtlasAtlas

I would put in this catchy Hermes Voyage d’Hermes - an underrated gem of cardamom, bergamot, woody and musky notes.

Lagerfeld Classic / Lagerfeld (1978) (Eau de Toilette)Lagerfeld Classic Eau de Toilette This one struck me as a bit of a hidden gem.

I have to echo @Ceesie's assessment of Dunhill's Signature Collection. While we don't align with our likes 100%, overall I'm pretty impressed with three of the four I've tried so far and have five more samples to try.

One from 2023 that I like a lot but hasn't made big inroads into wardrobes is Pasha de Cartier Noir AbsoluPasha de Cartier Noir Absolu
