Interesting article about scents that are trademarked in the US. There are only 15. To be trademarked, a scent cannot be the primary purpose of the product. So, the scent of perfumes and air fresheners cannot be trademarked. One example of the 15 is the scent of Play-Doh. Funny, because sometimes a perfume review will be negative because it smells like Play-Doh. The one that surprised me is the scent of Hoppes No. 9. Hoppes is a gun bore cleaner.
Thanks for sharing, every so often when I open my phone web browser and it’s on Google, an article from visual capitalist is listed among the articles shown. Gotta say, they’ve almost always been food for thought, though I’d not yet come across any associated with scent! I don’t know why but seeing two types of footwear with trademark scents made me chuckle… good luck keeping those dogs from barking, and shoot don’t they know coconut and bubblegum are out and mango is in lately!?
I recall after I’d purchased L'Eau d'Ambre Extrême , I’d read some reviews likening it to the scent of Play-Doh, at least sniffing it from the atomizer. About a year into owning it and being perplexed at what on earth those people were sniffing before sniffing said atomizer, cause I wasn’t getting Play-Doh, I decided to pull the cap off and give it a sniff and what do ya know… spot on Play-Doh! Thankfully, no “d’oh!” to be found when spraying it cause when sprayed, thankfully, no signs of the play kind.
