Your Most Worn Perfumes
by Apicius | Perfumes & Brands
...Which are the perfumes that you use the most often?Actually, I would find it a good idea if we could automatically display this statistic to each other. It would be interesting to see what people actually wear according to their statistic. Well, until then let's share it here.Just in case you don't know: If you tell Parfumo your daily wear it can build a statistic for you.So, here is mine from today.

...The sketch of a fluted, cylindric black glass flacon with a white cap reminds me of something but I don't get it.I see a similarity with the flacon shape of the classic Dunhill perfumes but they weren't black with white cap.I'll call the German community for help.http://www.parfumo.de/forum/viewtopic.php?p=497600#497600

...The logo is copyrighted by Giorgio Armani, so it must be an old Armani fragrancehttp://www.trademarkia.com/ga-79046732.html...if the logo is correct. The problem is that there weren't many perfumes by Armani 1992 or before:http://tinyurl.com/nt2k6geThe explanation given in the first post by Deutsh would fit to the old Eau pour Homme (black bottom and black cap) but the sketch with the white cap and black glass does not fit to any historic Armani perfume.Deutsh, sometimes our memories betray us. Are you maybe confusing two perfumes with each other ?

Which Caron Pour un Homme Pour Un Homme de Caron (1934) (Eau de Toilette) - Caron
by Apicius | Perfumes & Brands
Just some thoughts about Caron's Pour un Homme
...Pour un Homme de Caron is a real classic gents' cologne.Launched in 1938, it seems to have become a role model for gents' and unisex lavender colognes. The main idea behind it is the combination of lavender with vanilla. While lavender could be described as herbal and fougère-style, vanilla is smooth, broad and oriental. IMHO, Caron's Pour und Homme should be regarded as a semi-oriental.For some reason, this combination must be very tempting for perfumers. From budget to niche - it is hard to find lavender perfumes without Caron's vanilla touch.Opposites attract - but in case of lavender vs. vanilla I have a different opnion. I think those two notes are too far apart, and I don't feel at home with that accord. There are supposedly at least two reasons for this combination. First, of course, it has proved commercially successful. And second, lavender itself seems to be a rather fleeting note that calls for a fixing agent. I suppose vanilla can provide just that. So, I have been looking for Pour und Homme alternatives without vanilla, and I would like to point out two:"Utopian" by social creatures: A very discreet lavender perfume. Also semi-oriental but with tonka and cognac instead of vanilla. Great and undeservedly unknown niche lavender."Oxford & Cambridge" by Czech & Speake. Dry, herbal and smoky. They abandoned the idea that lavender needs something to soften it. Gorgeous!Besides that, it is always good to have a simple lavender water at home that is just that. I prefer unperfumed washing powder and fabric softener, and sprinkle a dash of lavender water on the fresh laundry.

Which Caron Pour un Homme Pour Un Homme de Caron (1934) (Eau de Toilette) - Caron
by Apicius | Perfumes & Brands
...Briarthorn, I hope Pour un Homme de Caron hasn't been reformulated much. It is not my favorite perfume and I have not cared much if they have changed the formula. If you have found reports about that somewhere - that might be a different story.Otherwise, the newest should be the best.

Which Caron Pour un Homme Pour Un Homme de Caron (1934) (Eau de Toilette) - Caron
by Apicius | Perfumes & Brands
...Okay, I see.I would buy a bottle of "Pour un Homme de Caron" in a good perfume store or from a popular online perfume shop.I'd rather not buy "Pour un Homme" from an unknown seller named BEANIEGRAM2000 on ebay:- much too cheap with only 21.99 $- name on the bottle not complete- either a fake or age-old stuff

Iso E Super: inspired invention or chemical horror?
...Greysolon: Iso E is such a beautiful, complex essence that it can almost stand on its own as a complete scent. Almost. Actually, you can get it in a sort of single note perfume by Geza Schön: "Molecule 01"But, after having tested "Molecule 01" I am in doubt that Iso E Super is the characteristic Terre d'Hermès note. I would say, Molecule 01 smells different than the typical cedar-like base in TdH. I do recognise it as a perfume ingredient but a different one. To me, it is something along the woody-ambery line. I know that some people are anosmic to Molecule 01 (Iso E Super), so maybe this fragrance ingredient is generally perceived differently by different people.Given that it is not a perfume composition, Molecule 01 is grossly overpriced. You pay for the bottle and the packaging, and for the convenience of not having to look further. Or is Geza Schön betraying us and Molecule 01 does not contain any Iso E Super at all?Maybe it is worth ordering a small amount of Iso E Super from Perfumer's Apprentice instead, just to find out.

Allergic Reactions
by Apicius | Perfumes & Brands
...Maybe it helps to know that you are not the only one.I once had a strong reaction after testing two discontinued fragrances by Crown Perfumery. My eyes got swollen so I couldn't see anything for a while. It happened that day when I was to pick up my father from hospital. In the end, my father went home alone, and I had to stay there for a day :)

Period-after-opening symbol?
by Apicius | Perfume Discussions
...I have had perfumes that changed after a year and others that seem to be the same after 10 years. Generally, I would say that most perfumes are usable for 5 years and more if stored in a dark place without much temperature change. Open it, try it and you will know!Only very few perfumes "age" like a good wine by getting more concentrated over the years. Some simply loose fragrance while others get an unpleasant rotten smell. Also, flocculations may be visible.

Weekly Scent Discussion #5: Indie Oils
by Apicius | Perfumes & Brands
...I am a bit sceptical. This is really a phenomenon in the US where the regulations on cosmetic product safety are more liberal than elsewhere. As far as I can see the whole hype was initiated by the Natural Perfumers Guild and their followers. It seems they have been giving classes and weekend courses for many years. The result is that many people mix something together, give it a French sounding name (sometimes with a spelling error if it really was French), and upload it on Etsy. Some of them drive us mad with their manic way of constantly launching new perfumes. We have problems to keep up with them. Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab alone has over 500 fragrances in our database, and I am sure we still do not have all.Etsy gives 9,856 results for "natural perfume"!How can you find your way in this chaos?

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Apicius | Parfumo Community
...Briarthorn: Is google holding fragrantica to different standards because it is a forum / discussion site and not a business? I am assuming because this site is not ad based, and instead paid for by donation that pressure from google would be less an issue. It is not so much Google ads. They are so powerful because they have the most popular search engine by far. Nobody wants to be put at the end of the list of their search results. But, this story does not really make sense to me. I have never heard before that Google tries to have a direct impact on the content of websites. You can google any porn you want with their search engine. They are certainly no guardians of public morals.Hard porn is also not allowed at Parfumo, and we delete such content if we see it here. But perfume ads? - No. Parfumo is rather liberal. There may be good reasons to find one or the other perfume ad offensive or racy. In this case - wouldn't it be worth a good discussion?

Weekly Scent Discussion #3: Classifying Orange Blossom
...I always wonder in how far the note Orange Blossom in perfumes is the same as Neroli. As far as I know neroli oil is made from the blossoms of citrus aurantium (bitter orange) put apparently also sometimes from simple orange blossoms (citrus sinensis) - see Wikipedia for details. The scent of neroli is very distinct. It is characteristic for the classic Eau de Cologne, such as Farina's Kölnisch Wasser, Mülhens' 4711 or Guerlains Eau du Coq. There are numerous of such colognes around. On the other side I often get a different perception with perfumes where the note is named orange blossom instead of neroli. Orange blossom seems to be a typical white flower scent which means that it belongs into the neighborhood of jasmine, tuberose and gardenia. An example for a fragrance where I get this orange blossom but not neroli scent would be "Cuir Venenum No.03" by Parfumerie Générale.Does anybody share my perception? Or am I wrong?

Say hello and/or introduce yourself (if you like)
by Apicius | Parfumo Community
Re: Stumbled here by accident
...Sorry, Briarthorn, for not answering earlier but I was a bit busy this weekend. Briarthorn: It was the reviews that really dragged me back here. The quality of the reviews are pretty high on this site. Yep, that is exactly what we want to achieve! We take effort in maintaining this site, and we appreciate it if the users also take a little effort in writing reviews. People who start with three-liners soon feel encouraged to try a bit more, just by the the example other reviewers give them.Briarthorn:And then started to put up my collection and I noticed something awesome, I could put in my minis and decants! I also like that I can make a folder to put in my 200 or so samples. I just need to figure out how to do it. I see you use the standard collections so far. Not sure if you have already noticed but on your Settings page you can customize your own collections. As an example, just have a look at my profile page and scroll down a little.Briarthorn:Apicius, I was so relieved when I saw that this site isn't AD based and not commercial. We all here are volunteers including DonVanVliet, the owner of this site. Nevertheless, I found his promise to keep Parfumo International ad-free a bit courageous. As far as I know, there are ads for not logged-in users, and on the German site there is an ad in the Souk area. Briarthorn:I have no idea how you afford to keep the site going, donations? If so tell me how to give.Yes, it is donations and the few ads we have. This covers up the costs for the server rent and a few additional services that Parfumo needs. There is a donation button on the starting page where you will find the bank account data. However, I found out recently that the banks charge enormous fees if you want to send money from the US to Europe or vice versa. So, before you donate, please check back with your bank if that would make sense at all. We had a paypal link installed once on Parfumo.net but due to a technical problem, Paypal would display the pages in German to you. The issue is still on the ToDo list. Thank you for your offer and your kind words!
