Which company has done the most damage to the industry?
by Seatonica | Perfumes & Brands
...In general terms, the dictomomy of pulp for the masses and "art" for the literate is no new thing. The "democratisation" of perfume and its accompanying slide from art-form to accessory, however, is a relatively recent phenomenon. Anything produced on an industrial scale is bound to suffer in terms of quality. But I still don't understand the logic in flooding the market with so many junk perfumes with such short lifespans. How do they make money?

What perfume have you bought recently?
by Seatonica | Perfumes & Brands
...Haven't bought much so far this year, but I did just pick up some vintage "J'ai Ose" by Guy Larouche for 99c. Missed out on a couple of other things, but it's probably just as well. I have a lot of perfumes and these days I'm only prepared to chase absolutely must-haves.Haven't you done well Scentimental & DinD - can't believe you're really finsihed though D!

Which company has done the most damage to the industry?
by Seatonica | Perfumes & Brands
...Very interesting question.Hard to decide which is worse - the cynical marketing of every celebrity-come-lately via fragrance or the trashing of quality brands. It's sad to see Calvin Klein perfumes in the bargain bin and even sadder to see the Body Shop's slide into oblivion.

Good movies you have recently watched
by Seatonica | Off Topic
...W.E.Nevermind that this film invited derision because of Madonna's invlovement, I really enjoyed it. Velvet PlaygroundA fascinating homage to glam rock that held my attention the whole time - no mean feat I can assure you :) Loved the visuals and the soundtracks in both these films.

How many discontinued perfumes do you own?
by Seatonica | Perfumes & Brands
...Once you start counting you quickly realise that you don't have to be a vintage lover to have a wardrobe full of discontined perfumes these days :(

How many discontinued perfumes do you own?
by Seatonica | Perfumes & Brands
...Of 109 samples, I count 9 as discontinued including Balenciaga Rumba though it is not identified as such. At least one problem with the Parfomo database concerns Givenchy, specifically the conflation of the originals with the Les Mythiques line recreations, with the result that "Givenchy lll", for example, looks like it's in production when it isn't. Same goes for "L'interdit" etc. IMHO this confusion between original lines and re-issues or recreations (I'm not talking about reformulations here) is problematic, though I recognize that logistically it might be tricky to rectify since people have already left reviews. Still, for the sake of accuracy, and being tidy-minded, I'd like to see it fixed. I have already asked about this in the appropriate thread btw.

How many discontinued perfumes do you own?
by Seatonica | Perfumes & Brands
...Using the Parfumo database I counted 33 out of production perfumes from the minis and FBs currently in my wardrobe, plus another 8 at least that I'm pretty sure are gone but not identified as such in the database. You can tell I have work to do but am trying to avoid it :)

Less likely to buy discontinued fragrances? G-man (Eau de Cologne) - Gainsboro / Gainsborough
by Seatonica | Perfumes & Brands
...Now that I've learned that not all vintages are created equal and have re-acquired my past favourites I restrict myself to certain genres when purchasing something "new" - green perfumes, orientals and chypres mostly, aldehydes on occassion. Because these are the kinds of perfumes I like you'd have to say my purchasing is guided by personal taste rather than rarity. In general terms unfashionable discontinued beauties are more affordable for me than niche and IMHO better value than the mostly synthetic, one-dimensional and boring scents foisted on the masses nowadays. On that score I'm with you, Dutchsniffer.

New U.K. Postal rules.
by Seatonica | Parfumo Community
...With so much confusion surrounding this issue the faint-hearted will be deterred from posting.I recently had some dealings with a seller who refused to post from Melbourne to Sydney because she thought it was illegal and could not be persuaded otherwise. She kept reducing the buy-it-now price but refused to sell it to me because I couldn't pick up even though I'd have paid her top price - so frustrating

What makes a scent smell "expensive" ?
by Seatonica | Perfumes & Brands
...For me it's a perfume that develops through stages that spells quality - a term I prefer over "expensive" given that nearly every fragrance sold in Australia is expensive!

Parfumo/Fragrantica
by Seatonica | Parfumo Community
...Pipette:This morning the attitude and policy of Parfumo was published, after the storm was settled, to show us "the way". That is much better than simply deleting the topic as it has happened countless times in Fragrantica, leaving the crowd baffled, haplessly angry, and members quitting in disgust.I appreciate the attitude of Parfumo to let us know what the climate should be.P, when you talk about Parfumo publishing a policy are you referring to the way an issue was handled/resolved on the German site or did I miss something?
