Please advise on L'Eau d'Ambre
by ChapeauClack | Perfume Recommendations
...Hey, Cryptic! I'm happy to see you too! Thank you so much for your input! I believe you are right about JCE and Pierre Montale. I'm inclined to pull the trigger anyway though. I need something safe for work. Besides, there are about three fragrances in the whole L'Artisan lineup that I really don't care for, otherwise their offerings have concsistently been in my top ten for years. I will try the Alien though. There's no such thing as too many winter perfumes in this climate.

Please advise on L'Eau d'Ambre
by ChapeauClack | Perfume Recommendations
...Humbly seeking advice from my fragrant people :-)Someone is offering a partial of L'Artisan "L'Eau D'Ambre", and I'm contemplating a blind buy. I really crave a warm blanket type of scent for this autumn. However, I'm not the biggest fan of ambers and haven't sniffed them all by any means. I do really like Montale Blue Amber though, and it shares some of L'Eau D'Ambre's notes. Are the two similar? If not, how do they differ? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Idle chit chat: what's the weather like where you live
by ChapeauClack | Off Topic
...Here in Siberia (as some of you might know, I've moved back a few months ago) the temps are in the 100's - that's +40 and higher if you use centigrade. And yes, this is what typical Siberian midsummers are like, very hot and dry with an occasional thunderstorm. Me, I'd like it milder, but heck, home is home. What's up in your neck of the woods, y'all? p.s. Perfumewise, I've been drawn to huge white florals a-la Fracas, and L'Artisan style watercolor Orientals. Although Opium is surely beckoning and will get a wearing soon.

Most beautiful flacon(s) in your collection?
by ChapeauClack | Perfumes & Brands
...Can't really pick one! I love L'Artisan flacons, esp the 3.4 oz ones, now there's heft.Adore "Shalimar" and pretty much all Caron extraits: I'm honored to have "Narcisse Noir" extrait in my humble collection, and I'm pining for an old "Nuit de Noel" in her flapper attire. On the other hand, Cristian Lacroix "Tumulte" is such a lovely xmas tree bauble, too bad the scent isn't really my cuppa.

Do our perfume choices influence our other choices?
by ChapeauClack | Perfumes & Brands
...I just realized the funniest thing. Not long ago I was browsing the web for some home remodeling ideas and fell in love with one certain green leather sofa. I've been thinking about it a lot. Then it struck me. Green. Leather. Clearly I couldn't help loving it, it's a furniture incarnation of "Bandit"! And it wasn't just one instance. Right now I'm planning a big event and to ease the process I decided to first choose my scent for that day. I thought of a perfect combination of notes and stopped at lavender and vanilla. Et Voila! the color scheme of the whole thing dawned on me: lavender and vanilla hues will look stunning together be it the flower arrangements, the tables, or anything else. So, has your perfume addiction fuelled your choices or likes/dislikes in other areas?

light florientals, please?
by ChapeauClack | Perfume Recommendations
...Many of the L'Artisan offerings spring to mind. They have this watercolor texture that makes even the oriental-most of them feel light and breezy. I'm currently in love with "Dzongkha", which has peony for its floral note and looks like no citrus notes whatsoever. It does feature a big helping of cardamom though that may give a slightly citrusy impression, but honestly pretty much any of B.Duchaufour's creations for the brand might fit the light floriental bill.

Something along the lines of Lubin Gin Fizz please
by ChapeauClack | Perfume Recommendations
...Hello all! As usual I come bearing questions! My hubby took a liking to Lubin's Gin Fizz and since it's going to be his birthday soon, it seems like an obvious choice for a fragrant gift. Unfortunately there's a note in GF that annoys the hell out of yours truly. Can't quite place the rogue component but there it is. So I guess I'm looking for something similarly hesperidic and aromatic, but essentially... better. Sans the metallic screech that kills Lubin's offering for me. To be honest I also wouldn't mind for it to be somewhat richer and more complex. This genre is really not something I usually look into, so I'm truly lost here and will appreciate any suggestions.

Good Old Homespun Beauty Tips
by ChapeauClack | Off Topic
...Speaking of oils, one of the weirdest and most effective pieces of advice I had been given during my battle with acne as a teenager, was to use warm olive oil as a nightly treatment. The oil was to be warmed on a steam bath until I could barely immerse my finger in it and then I would dab a cotton ball in it and apply it all over my freshly washed and dried face in a makeup-removing-like motion. Apparently it doesn't clog the pores either and also heals the acne. It actually did work. One other thing I did at that time was a weekly facial mask made of finely ground oatmeal with enough lukewarm water to make it into a spreadable paste, and half a clove of squished garlic. It was quite smelly though, so I only did it when I could stay home all day. By the way, if anyone has pore-diminishing tricks down your sleeve, bring'em on!

EU amendment to sharpen restrictions on fragrance allergens
by ChapeauClack | Perfumes & Brands
...Maybe we should just sign a collective petition instead of sending individual letters that are easily ignored?I'm not sure about the EU and US, but in my country if a petition is signed by a minimum of 100'000 people, it's mandatory for the parliament to at least consider it. Surely there are more than a hundred thousand people across the fragrance boards who are against this massacre of perfumery.Change.org seems to be a good platform to start, what do you think?

What Scents Have You Pulled Out For Fall's Cooler Weather?
by ChapeauClack | Perfumes & Brands
...I pulled out my Shalimar Fourreau du Soir for the first time this year. Should've waited till Dec, 1, as I only wear this version of Shalimar in December and January, but the weather just suddenly took such a drastic turn for the worse that I couldn't cope without my furry friend anymore.

Chinese fragrances - any recommendations?
by ChapeauClack | Perfume Recommendations
...Cryptic: Seems it's just not the thing in your country. :(Yeah... Add to that some pretty unbelievable customs fees for imported goods, and there's hardly any way it can ever become a thing here. As for the scare mongering, I came to a conclusion that it actually has its merit. I mean, decent fragrances are out of reach of almost everybody anyway, so little harm done. But those "affordable" ones I see in supermarkets do look and smell like they should come with a hazmat label.

Decisions, decisions... this time it's about Mitsouko Mitsouko (Eau de Toilette) - Guerlain
by ChapeauClack | Perfumes & Brands
...Gold: It's sooo tellling the man is named "Wasser" = water in German. "Watering down" fragrances is his task, although I think he's not guilty, the poor chap.Ahahaha I've been chuckling about that too, ever since I sampled enough of his creations. I can't bring myself to liking his style either, too much candy and all too watery for my tastes. He does a lot of good though, what with the restoring of rose plantations in Bulgaria and giving people in Mysore jobs growing sandalwood etc. My theory is that maybe this is more important for Guerlain at the moment, after all JP Guerlain did choose Wasser to be his heir, he must have had good reason for that. Maybe a true visionary parfumeur worthy of the House will emerge later, when all this regrowing and giving back has been done by this man.Still, Nahema is going to be a huge loss. Where ever am I going to find enough money to try everything I want before it's all ruined?

Which perfume will be your next buy ?
by ChapeauClack | Perfumes & Brands
...I've been on a perfume diet for too long - no Fbs for more than a year! So now that I'm off the leash, my next ones will be "Bandit", because I found I can't live without this juice, Serge Lutens "Douce Amere", because it's discontinued and I need one, and Histoires de Parfums "1889 Moulin Rouge". That is if I don't get distracted again by some fabulous vintage Guerlain beckoning me!
