To Dis or Not to Dis
by Mill4r4 | Parfumo Community
...I'm not into being negative here. However if I really, really hated something I'd try to find a way of making it into a positive. There are niche houses where the nose is so intrinsic, that one will love or hate and entire line, I've experienced a couple of those. For me this is what makes perfumery more interesting, when balanced against the overwhelming torrent of mass market blandness.

Hawthorn
...Perhaps one of my most favoured trees. I get a really strong impression of Hawthorn from Chanel Beige, the EdT.

Blind Buys - Are you a risk taker? Best + Worst Experiences
by Mill4r4 | Perfumes & Brands
...Well not a blind buy, but bought from one testing, Womanity. Loved the sample, hated the bottle. I bought a bottle of Chanel Cristalle today and I'm still not sure about it.

Weekly Scent Discussion #6: Labels of Men vs Woman and you
by Mill4r4 | Perfumes & Brands
...As a man with scents mainly marketed at Women, I can happily say that Shalimar can be worn very effectively by a man. (Hey Sean Connery supposedly wears Jicky!)I don't really like the smell of sage, lavender, rosemary, aquatic, or mint notes that are found in abundance in fragrances marketed towards men. Citrus based fragrances tend to be very fleeting, and I can't generally smell leather.I'll stick with flowers and spices ... :)

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Mill4r4 | Parfumo Community
...Heck, is this thread still going. :) I've got a soft spot for Fragrantica, it was my first forum. I do quite like the fact that Parfumo is cosier, and don't really follow Fragrantica anymore. As for Facebook, well I've been in, and left, quite a few groups. There may be quite a few closed and secret groups, but it is the same names over and over. There are fewer perfume fanatics in it for the long haul than I'd imagined.Partially I think that our perfume habit grows and changes over time, with one spending time on various forums. It is very nice to see familiar faces, with different names.

Forum Post Over At "F" Concerning Perfumes For Gay
by Mill4r4 | Parfumo Community
...I don't often post in threads so I'll start by saying 'hello'.Well it keeps happening, someone posts something emotive to the more conservative amongst us, opinions are expressed and then the trolls come out to play. It's happened before on perfume forums, really disgusting homophobic comments being posted. It makes me sick, it really does. But people seem to like this freedom of speech thing, what I would like to say is where is the responsibility of speech? Where is the reasonableness that you would expect from grown adults?Well it's not there and that's the problem. :(

The end of a love affair-Scents that have lost their magic ?
by Mill4r4 | Perfumes & Brands
...I think I'd quite like to smell like a barnyard animal, but I generally like skanky things. I 'had' a bottle of Womanity, loved it from the sample, from the bottle it was utterly vile.Another odd thing, I revisit fragrances, I'm going greener and more floral for Spring. My heavy hitting orientals have (gasp), temporarily lost some of their appeal.

I can't wear Lutens ... why oh why oh why???? Rousse - Serge Lutens
by Mill4r4 | Perfumes & Brands
...Oh Serge, why oh why can't I love you?I think that, in part, it may be some kind of reverse snobbery. I'll, somewhat reluctantly, spend money on an expensive Chanel but, mostly I like my fragrances on the reasonable side of pricing.I haven't got subtle tastes in fragrances, I tend to like them loud! I haven't got a very good sense of smell either, I mean, how many people can't smell leather fragrances?Best not to ask me about Bond No9 ... 8)
