Love letter to White Florals

... +1 "Florence (Eau de Parfum) | Tocca" If you like a more tropical gardenia, "Kai (Eau de Parfum) | Kai by Gaye Straza" "Gardenia | Marc Jacobs" is my ultimate bubblegummy Gardenia, but it's discontinued. (👀 Me with my 3 bottles to last a lifetime.) I prefer "Olène | Diptyque" over "Do Son (Eau de Toilette) | Diptyque", but that's because my nose doesn't always play well with too much tuberose. It's a bit intense for day/work wear. A lot of personality. "Jasminum Sambac | Chloé" is pretty good, but I admit I rehomed my bottle. I'm loving "Jasmin Divin | Adopt' / Réserve Naturelle" right now. It possibly has an edge over "Olène | Diptyque". "White Full | Al Rehab" and "Full (Eau de Parfum) | Al Rehab" are popular soliflores, but I think a little unrefined and abrasive alone. Super affordable. "Chance Eau Fraîche (Eau de Toilette) | Chanel" has been the only Chanel I've liked enough to not wear layered. "J'adore Parfum d'Eau | Dior" is on my top shelf list as well. "Jasmin Perle de Thé (Parfum) | Fragonard" is probably my #2 fragrance, but it's more about the freshness of the tea and bergamot, which is why I like to punch up the jasmine/white florals with "Olène | Diptyque". "Nick's Sunflower | Eric Buterbaugh Florals" is a different jasmine fragrance. I can't justify the FB price to my bank account. You might want to give some of the popular lily of the valley scents a try. I struggle with them, but if $ wasn't an issue, I'd have a bottle of "Lucky (Eau de Parfum) | Dior"

... "Coach (2016) (Eau de Toilette) | Coach" is an airy floral, but also a bit watery. "J'adore Parfum d'Eau | Dior" is a fresh floral with a bit of creaminess. "Starfruit & White Flowers | 4711" is a delicate floral. The starfruit is not too pronounced, but if you don't like any fruit at all, skip. "Inflorescence | Byredo" A greener white floral. A little soapy. "Lucky (Eau de Parfum) | Dior" Another green lily of the valley, but still pretty fresh and not super intense. "Sweet Jasmine | Lanvin" This one was too light for me, but still pretty.

... I love "Jasmin Perle de Thé (Parfum) | Fragonard". If you didn't like that, I'd stay away from "Imperial Tea | Kilian". Use enough sprays of JPdT and it's the same thing. "Tea Tonique | Miller Harris" struck me as very earthy and heavily spiced. But my jam is fresh-florals, so a little spice hits me harder than most. In fact, everything I tried in the Miller Harris discovery set was too earthy/woody/herbal for me! Lol

... I actually envy the fact that you have a very defined love for a particular note! There are soooo many options and I'm constantly telling myself not to jump the gun on the first, "Oooo, I like this one," because it always takes further consideration to actually evaluate whether or not something fits into my collection/ aesthetic/ likelihood of use. Even with a preference for lavender, there's still plenty for you to explore when it comes to the different characteristics a fragrance might put forward. I generally dislike lavender myself, but according to the Google: Floral: Lavender has a delicate, floral fragrance that's slightly sweet and refreshing Herbal: Lavender has herbaceous notes that can be bright and aromatic Camphorated: Some lavenders have a medicinal camphor smell Balsamic: Lavender has balsamic undertones Woody: Lavender has woody tones Powdery: Lavender has soft, powdery notes Smokey: Lavender can have soft, smokey notes Perfumery loves to experiment in bringing out different facets if you want something more than the usual bed and bath products.

Layering Options With AI Yes/No
StarMajesty
|
Off Topic
... Just tried AI to workshop layering combos for some challenging perfume oils and one seems like it might work for me. My hit rate for manually searched and selected fragrances earning permanent(-ish) placement in my collection is probably less than 5%, and my successful layering attempts are but a fraction of that. The amount of hours spent researching, finding samples/decants, price comparing, and testing, while fun, can get tedious. Even with AI, I spent a not insignificant amount of time skin testing about 15 combos and used my noggin power focused on whether or not I enjoyed the combo. I even used it to whittle down my Watch List by a good 25% based on the data I gave it on my preferences. I don't intend to follow the recommendations blindly, ofc. It's a tool. Use it, don't use it, do what works for you.

How Do You Wear Your Al-Rehab?

... Thanks to AI, I've combined "Moroccan Rose | Al Rehab" and "Sabaya (Perfume Oil) | Al Rehab" in a 40:60 ratio and was told to wait 48h to let them blend. I liked the combo well enough dabbed on the skin, hopefully the fine-tuning gets the balance between the floral-fruit-fresh-sweet in the right place for me. Tried Blanc in all sorts of combos, but couldn't make it work. Nebras, Luzane, Al Hanouf, and Lovely were all fails. Here's hoping I can make a return for a partial refund! 🤞

... Figured out a solve for "Green Tea | Al Rehab", using it in my hand soap! I use a green tea & aloe soap I can barely smell, and we're already going soapy, it's a perfect solution. Now I'm down to 7 I have to figure out or send back...

How Do You Wear Your Al-Rehab?

Perfume Recommendations
... None of the 9 Al-Rehab oils I've recently gotten would I consider wearing alone, but I really don't want to bother with initiating a return. Most all were too soapy, sweet, or fruity for my fresh-floral tastes. How would you rescue these with layering (can be something already in my collection, or something I should consider adding)? "White Full | Al Rehab" and "Jasmin Perle de Thé (Parfum) | Fragonard" was really successful! "Blanc (Perfume Oil) | Al Rehab" It's a soapy masculine musk sort of scent on me. Aquatic. I don't know how to work with it. 😅 "Al Hanouf (Perfume Oil) | Al Rehab" I usually avoid all herbs and spices, but I have a lemongrass shampoo I really liked. Unfortunately this one makes me think someone has a pot of curry on the stove! Is there any saving it for me? "Nebras (Perfume Oil) | Al Rehab" Powdery, soapy, sweet, and heavy on the sandalwood. "Green Tea | Al Rehab" I actually would wear this solo if it didn't turn into a soap bomb on my skin after 15 minutes. "Luzane (Perfume Oil) | Al Rehab" This time the lemongrass went the way of cinnamon soap. "Sabaya (Perfume Oil) | Al Rehab" She's a very sugared rose. I might not be able to save her. "Moroccan Rose | Al Rehab" A fruity-sweet floral that felt very girlish. Did not work with "Amazing Grace Ballet Rose | Philosophy", "Bianca (Eau de Parfum) | Tocca", or "Rose | Yves Rocher". "Lovely (Perfume Oil) | Al Rehab" Sweet citrus-fruity soap with florals. Kind of immature.

Masculine or unisex "Jammy" or fresh "not old" rose?
StarMajesty
|
Perfume Recommendations
... Ihwayne @StarMajesty Thank you! I will check all these out. I do believe that layering will be my only option so thanks for the recommendations! Try "Tea Rose (Eau de Toilette) | Perfumer's Workshop" first, it's waaaaay more affordable than the other two. I think it's super green and screechy, but some people like that. "Eau Rose (Eau de Toilette) | Diptyque" and "Eau Rose (Eau de Parfum) | Diptyque" are also both really popular, but neither of them worked for me. I don't get any sweetness/jammyness from them. The edp is kinda herbal. Diptyque is $$$ as well.

Masculine or unisex "Jammy" or fresh "not old" rose?

Perfume Recommendations
... I love love love "Rose | Yves Rocher". It's a fresh floral rose with very little of the greenness that's in a lot of the super popular rose scents like "The Coveted Duchess Rose | Penhaligon's", "Tea Rose (Eau de Toilette) | Perfumer's Workshop" or "Red Roses | Jo Malone". Alone, it's definitely feminine, but I think it's a great at layering. Unfortunately, it's on the fleeting side, but it's super affordable. I think I last saw it on Yves Rocher at €20 for 100ml, but they don't sell that version to the US. 😭

Do you ever blind buy? Or do you always test first?
StarMajesty
|
Perfume Discussions
... Smirky No, I'd never blind buy at that price. Previously, I only blind bought cheaper fragrances, $30 to $40 tops. Have recently stopped doing that as well. Totally agree. There's only one where I'm tempted since I can't find any decants, but it's still under $100.

... I don't personally like a lot of sweet, but fresh/florals are totally my jam. These all have light to moderate sweet: "Beautiful Magnolia (Eau de Parfum) | Estēe Lauder" "Coach (2016) (Eau de Toilette) | Coach" "J'adore Parfum d'Eau | Dior" "Rose | Yves Rocher"

What are your top 5 perfumes in your collection?
StarMajesty
|
Perfumes & Brands
... Hmm... I'd consider the top 5 has to be something I'm almost always in the mood for. I think I only have 3 that would meet that threshold. 1. "Rose | Yves Rocher" It's just so easy to wear and layers on top of others pretty well. Such versatility! 2. "Jasmin Perle de Thé (Parfum) | Fragonard" Use enough sprays and it starts to meet the intensity of "Imperial Tea | Kilian", but I like a more measured hand. 3. "Amazing Grace Ballet Rose | Philosophy" It's just nice. If I need to be a little bit more complex than just "Rose | Yves Rocher" Honorable Mention: "Orange Blossom (Cologne) | Jo Malone"

... "Amazing Grace Ballet Rose | Philosophy". Tried a sample vial last year, LOVED it. Saw that there's an unchanged edp version and am now getting rid of my "Chloé (2007) (Eau de Parfum) | Chloé". "Lightly Bloom | Zara" is on its way. I liked "Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet (2023) (Eau de Toilette) | Dior", but it completely disappeared after 2° on me, so I hope this one satisfies my want for a peony. I have some decants and an order for some of the Forever Florals line coming from Hawaii that I put in last month that are taking forever to get shipped. I also have an online cart of things I'm holding off putting through until these decants get here and I can decide whether or not to go full bottle. The total is ~$150 and I expect to eliminate a few. 🤞 I expect I will be putting in an order for Fragonard's newest "Fleur de Citronnier | Fragonard" (as well as "Jasmin Perle de Thé (Eau de Parfum) | Fragonard" because I use that thing like a body spray). It's not yet available to ship to the US, but I also want to hold off until there's a promo I'm interested in. Slightly interested in "Fragonard (2024) (Eau de Toilette) | Fragonard", but not sure how I feel about hyacinth.
