Perfumes with (noticeable) Star Anise note?

... It's definitely noticeable in "Pho Breakfast | d'Annam" , but not the strongest. I also hate the prominence of clove😭. It's way too sharp and stinks up every fragrance it's in to me. I'm certainly not an expert, but I just went on a really fun deep dive so here's what the internet said. Anethol is the main smell in star anise (and fennel), but I'd imagine you're smelling the clove because of eugenol. Eugenol is the main component in clove essential oil and has a longer history of being used in perfumery, often times being an easy way to add a warm spiciness to a frag. When you combine that and the fact that star anise and clove are often paired together culturally in five spice... bam. Clove everywhere.

... TOTALLY agree with everyone who said "Soie Malaquais | Dries Van Noten". The elegance is insane. "Aguamadera | Xinú (no. 1) | Xinú" "L'Eau de Parfum | Cirque du Soleil" "L'Eau d'Issey (Eau de Toilette) | Issey Miyake" are some standouts for me

... I try my best to save myself from being disappointed by keeping my blind buys cheap and happened to get very lucky with "Angham / انغام | Lattafa" and "Supremacy Collector's Edition | Afnan Perfumes". Lucky is the wrong word... I was basically beaten over the head with how amazing both of these were before purchasing, but they were good blind buys nonetheless lol.

... Nobody in my immediate family has ever really worn or been interested in fragrance. I could tell you plenty of the cosmetics my mother used to wear, but outside of a "Fresh Cream (Eau de Toilette) | Philosophy" body wash or "Warm Vanilla Sugar (Fragrance Mist) | Bath & Body Works" on RARE occasions there was no latent learning or inspiration behind loving fragrance for me 😭.

Brands that you just don't get

... Designer is hard for me. It just feels like they're all trying to be too many things at once (with notable exceptions). I also don't see the appeal of the Glossier, Juliette Has A Gun, or Dedcool scents. When there's a brand DNA that infects EVERY fragrance it just seems cookie cutter and uninspired to me. I also don't understand the insane price points of houses like LV or PDM even if I enjoy some of their line very much.

... "Yuzu | Acqua di Parma" I subscribed to Scentbird just to find what I liked before purchasing (crazy to me now, given the million ways there are to sample), and despite not liking this initially, the more I used it the more I could unravel the intricacies and appreciate the different facets it had.
