A Fresh Green Breeze That Doesn't Try Too Hard (RIP Grandma)
In a world where flankers multiply like summer dandelions and reformulation debates rage on like pub arguments, Acqua di Gio Pour Homme Eau de Parfum (2022) quietly steps in with a confident nod to the original, but with a greener, more grounded twist. Life’s too short to track every batch code... sometimes, you just want something that works. As I mentioned before, the entire AdG line is the epitome of functional fragrances, and this one continues on that trend.
The composition opens with a fresh burst of green mandarin, immediately setting a crisp tone. As it settles, the heart reveals a trio of clary sage, lavender, and geranium... herbaceous, slightly (genderless) floral, and green. These notes give the fragrance an almost leafy character that distinguishes it from the marine-dominant DNA of the original. The base is anchored by vetiver and mineral woods, adding a dry, earthy finish that lingers for a while.
This Adg flanker retains the breezy, aquatic soul of Acqua di Gio but filters it through a more aromatic, slightly rugged lens. It’s less about sea spray and more about my (dead) grandmother's Mediterranean coastal herb garden, maybe after a summer rain.
Performance is solid: 6+ hours of noticeable presence, stretching to 10 hours as a soft skin scent, even in high heat. It’s a great option for warm weather and easy to wear without being boring. The projection is average.
If you’re not emotionally invested in the AdG lineage or the reformulation rabbit hole, this is a good fragrance... but in terms of complexity, it is just one step above wearing deodorant. All in all it is a well-executed, modern aromatic that earns its place in a summer rotation.
