Search for dupe

Can dupes, inspired-by fragrances and hybrids be suggested?

Yes, dupes, inspired-by fragrances and hybrids may be suggested on Parfumo - provided they meet certain criteria. (In the following, “original” always refers to the brand that the dupe is based on).

Requirements for admission:

  • The perfume must have a unique, individual name. Brands that work exclusively with catalogs of numbers will not be accepted.
  • The perfume name of the original must not be copied one-to-one and must not contain any protected brand names.
  • The design of the bottle and packaging must not imitate the original in such a way that there is a risk of confusion.
  • Original logos may not be imitated either.
  • Apart from the logo of the dupe house, no logos of the original may be on the bottle or packaging.
  • The brand may not advertise that its perfume smells exactly like the original. Only formulations such as ‘inspired by...’, ‘Our version of...’, ‘A tribute to...’, ‘For fans of...’, ‘If you like ... you will also like our perfume’ etc. are permitted.

Basic principle:

The crucial question is: Can the dupe be mistaken for the original?

If the answer to this question is yes, the perfume will not be included as it would otherwise fall into the category of imitation. If there is no likelihood of confusion, the perfume may be included. In case of doubt, the administrative team will decide.

Can my submission be rejected?

Yes, the submission can be rejected for various reasons:

  • The perfume is already in our database. (Always use the search function first.)
  • The perfume doesn’t meet our inclusion criteria. (See: What gets included?)
  • The perfume is a dupe that doesn’t meet our criteria. (See: Can dupes, inspired by, and hybrids be suggested?)
  • The submission refers to more than one fragrance.
  • The submission is poorly sourced and/or contains errors, and wasn’t revised after a request to correct it.
