... My family growing up was the kind that was bordering on hoarding. So, as I grew, I was an adamant "I don't need it" person. Now as an adult, I find myself collecting perfume, chapsticks, and kitchenware (recently got a vintage set of 150 pieces of Tupperware, and today am receiving a whole new set of pots and pans. Where I am going to put them...that has yet to be discovered.)

... My husband gifts me a perfume for just about every "gifting" holiday. For our first Christmas together, he got me "Chance Eau Tendre (Eau de Toilette) | Chanel". For our first Christmas married, he got me "Her Elixir de Parfum | Burberry". For my last two birthdays, he has gotten me "Libre (Eau de Parfum Intense) | Yves Saint Laurent" (this is what I ended up wearing to our wedding <3 ) and "Black Opium (Eau de Parfum) | Yves Saint Laurent" . And then finally, this last Christmas he got me "Baccarat Rouge 540 (Eau de Parfum) | Maison Francis Kurkdjian" .

Which notes do you avoid?

... For me, I can be convinced over time and grow accustomed to and even fond of almost any note. However.... I cannot tolerate powdery rose fragrances at ALL. "Fleur Majesty Rose Royale | 31 | Kayali" is what immediately comes to mind. It is suffocating, it reminds me of the smell of a nursing home. It is just horrid to my nose and I have TRIED desperately to change my opinion about this to no avail.

... My husband bought me "Baccarat Rouge 540 (Eau de Parfum) | Maison Francis Kurkdjian" for Christmas and the next day, I went out and also bought myself "Flora Carnivora | Henry Rose" ! Two very different vibes but I can't wait to wear Flora Carnivora when I travel to the West Coast in a few months!

Character Fragrance Challenge. (Forum Game)

... In honor of the final season of Stranger Things (And yes, this contains mostly designer fragrances. That is because 1. I live in the midwest USA (where the characters also live) and do not have a lot of access to Niche fragrances and 2. I don't see most of the characters springing for Niche either) : Nancy Wheeler - Season 1 Nancy would wear something light, sweet, and girly like "Chance Eau Tendre (Eau de Toilette) | Chanel" but by season 5 I believe she's wearing something more along the lines of "Tobacco Vanille (Eau de Parfum) | Tom Ford" darker, smokier, more nuanced but still designer and easily likable. Steve Harrington - Season 1 Steve would wear something likeable but generic like "Versace pour Homme Dylan Blue (Eau de Toilette) | Versace" whereas by season 5 he would wear something like "Ombré Leather Parfum | Tom Ford" for a couple reasons. 1. because he's thirsty for Nancy to notice him so I think he'd shop the same brands. and 2. because I think he becomes deeper, warmer, more masculine. His taste would be closer to niche but not quite. Also it's canon that his parents are rich so he could afford the ridiculously priced full size version of this. Billy Hargrove - RIP Billy, you would have loved "Eros (Eau de Toilette) | Versace" and having your frat-boy scent enter the room before you did. Jonathan Byers - I don't think Jonathan would wear fragrance at all. I think he would judge it to be too "mainstream" for him, and not in a cool, unbothered and uninterested kind of way. I think he's avoiding fragrance in a very calculated "I'm better than all of you because I don't care about such frivolous things" way which, of course, is sure sign of caring way too much. Also he just looks like he stinks. Eddie Munson - Eddie is the kind of cool that Jonathan thinks that he is. In all sincerity, I don't think Eddie would wear fragrance either but not for dislike of its popularity. I think he'd smell like Irish spring soap (which was around in the 80s, I checked) and cigarettes. However, Eddie loves rock and roll and he strikes me as if he would be into old records. Also because it's just such an interesting fragrance that is simultaneously futuristic and nostalgic and likable yet unique. I think it encompasses the duality of Eddie so I say he'd wear "Cyber Garden | Costume National" if anything at all. Jim Hopper - I cannot for the life of me imagine Hopper wearing anything other than "Sauvage Elixir | Dior" and NOT just because he's middle aged. I think fragrance is just not something that he would overthink, I think he would buy whatever is most popular or whatever the person behind the counter suggested for him. Which I think would be Sauvage. This is not Sauvage slander, it's just objectively a generic, older leaning fragrance. Joyce Byers - there is a complexness to Joyce's character that can make it difficult to pinpoint a scent to fit her. She is angsty and tough, yet motivated by maternal love and instinct. A spiciness and a sweetness. For Joyce, I'd say she wears something like "Jeke (2025) (Extrait) | Slumberhouse" . There is an undeniable sweetness there but also a smoky spiciness. A lioness that cares for her cub and snaps at a predator in the same breath. Robin Buckley - I think Robin would wear something that's right down the middle unisex. Something that is neither feminine nor masculine, but has a slight playfulness to it. I see her with a deep, creamy, slightly spicy fragrance that evokes feelings of comfort like "Gris Charnel (Eau de Parfum) | bdk Parfums" Karen Wheeler - Karen varies from season to season. In Season 1, I'm getting a very "Miss Dior (2021) (Eau de Parfum) | Dior" vibe. In season 3, I'm getting a more "Black Opium (Eau de Parfum) | Yves Saint Laurent" vibe. However, I think by season 5 she is giving "Unknown Pleasures | Kerosene" It's somewhere between the sweet and girly and the mysterious. A good girl with some history. Argyle - Argyle either smells strongly of nondescript axe body spray OR he smells like "Cannabis Patchouli | Dries Van Noten" the smell of musky patchouli attempting to cover a distinct "weediness." Vecna/Henry Creel/001 - I can't pinpoint what scent he would wear until we understand his motives better as the season goes on. However, I currently have him somewhere between "Inexcusable Evil | Toskovat'" (for what I feel are obvious reasons) and "Dark Ride | Xyrena" . Inexcusable evil for the more obvious, dark and sinister intentioned version of him and Dark Ride for a more nuanced view. An evil that is, perhaps at times, well-intentioned. I chose it for the feeling that it evokes. A vaguely nostalgic and yet almost foreboding feeling in the pit of the stomach. A familiar evil.

What's the fragrance that got you into this hobby?

... As a child I was always obsessed with fragrance. My mom told the story at my wedding of finding me at 7 years old, locked in the bathroom, absolutely COVERED from head to toe in different lotions and oils. The story goes that even my hair was drenched and oily and my clothes were ruined, but there I was sitting on the bathroom floor smilingly as wide as can be. She says that was when I proudly announced, "Mommy! Come smell me! I smell beautiful!" So I've never been a stranger to fragrance. But my very first perfume that whet my appetite for fragrance research and collecting was the now discontinued, "Light Blue Italian Zest | Dolce & Gabbana". I was around 15 and at a Macy's with my best friend and her mom. Her mom was talking to the lady behind the counter and we were bored so we went and smelled every single perfume and cologne on the shelves. Light Blue Italian Zest was the only one that truly caught my attention. It was fresh, clean, and bright, nothing like the perfumes my peers were wearing at the time and it excited me. However, it was around $80 which was certainly not going to happen at the time. My friend's mom, however, did buy her a bottle of it that day and I vowed that I would buy my own when I could afford it. Well, by the time that I could, it was 2020 and I was 21 years old and the fragrance had been discontinued. Still determined, I tracked down an old bottle on Ebay and bought it for myself. My tastes have changed quite a bit since then, but I keep that old bottle despite the fact that it has less than a centimeter of liquid left and I never wear it. It's a testament to keeping a promise to my teenage self, and occasionally splurging on those things that she wanted but could never afford.

... Bought my husband "By the Fireplace | Maison Margiela" for Christmas (shhh don't tell) and am hoping that he got me "Mon Guerlain (Eau de Parfum Intense) | Guerlain" . If he did not, that will likely be my post-Christmas gift to myself.

How much do opinions of influencers mean to you?

... It depends on the influencer for me and also the fragrance that they are reviewing/promoting. For example, many of the fragrance influencers that I follow at the moment are working with larger brands and creating their own scents. That's wonderful, love that for them. However, I am not going to buy this perfume that you hyped to the heavens because YOU made it and get a large portion of the profit as well as notoriety. So of course you like it and think I should buy it, you cannot be objective. Any time that I see a video in which an influencer is overly excited about EVERY scent from a perfume line or brand and has nothing critical to say at all, it becomes very clearly to me that I am willingly watching a poorly disguised ad and I get the ick and turn it off. All that being said, if there is reviewer whose taste aligns well with my own, and they seem to be objective in the matter, I am more likely to consider purchasing at least a decant of the things they review well.

Your Favourite Discontinued Perfumes ?

... The very first fragrance that I ever recall enjoying enough to buy with my own money was "Light Blue Italian Zest | Dolce & Gabbana" I still have my bottle from many many years ago with the tiniest bit of juice left and, objectively, it smells like lemon pledge surface cleaner. So would I buy it today if it hadn't been discontinued? Absolutely not. But it was the fragrance that sparked a teen girls interest in the perfume world and for that I owe it a great debt.

... My SOTD is "Nebras | Lattafa Pride" layered with "Kismet Magic | Maison Alhambra" for a sweet, spicy mixture on this cold Thursday. For tonight, am struggling between "Black Opium (Eau de Parfum) | Yves Saint Laurent" or "Libre (Eau de Parfum Intense) | Yves Saint Laurent" . I am leaving tonight on a trip to celebrate my first wedding anniversary which will be Saturday. Libre was my wedding scent, and Black Opium was a gift from my husband for my birthday. Torn between waiting to break out the wedding scent until my actual anniversary or wearing it for the whole trip.

... AquaAlba BriFeiler AquaAlba Sometimes… actually a lot of times - more than we want to admit - gatekeeping is a good thing. Curious as to what you mean, would love to hear your more in-depth thoughts on this. The obvious example is the “influencer community” hyping and making perfumes more expensive and out of stock - thinking about a certain indie house but im sure many examples exist. Also, I don’t think it’s a big sin if someone doesn’t want to share the name of the perfume when asked - we are not owed that information. Not me though, I love saying it when people ask me. Ah, I see. I understand and agree on the price gouging side of the issue for sure. But it makes me sad to think that someone would lose out on what could be their dream fragrance or signature scent because I was too afraid of a price jump to share it with them. As for gatekeeping for the sake of uniqueness, it's one of my personal pet peeves. But I try to understand that everyone's personalities are different and not everyone feels the same. For me, I love to share the things that I enjoy with others so gatekeeping just doesn't make sense to me. I'm not saying it's a character flaw, but I definitely do get a negative impression when someone refuses to name a product (or where they purchased it) to others. It rubs me the wrong way, and makes me feel like that person thinks more highly of themselves than of others. It feels very self-important to me which I don't love. However, I know that's a personality difference, so I try not to assume too much.

My mom tells stories of finding me hiding in the bathroom as a child, lathering myself in every lotion and oil I could find. As I've grown up, I've become even more interested and spend nearly every free moment that I can afford, reading about perfume or discussing it. And it's been so cool finding a community of people that love the art of perfumery just like I do! That being said, the more that I've seen of the perfume community, the more one thing has bothered me... The condescension. I feel like every review and every forum comment contains some kind of allusion or reference to a popular, well-liked perfume and a jab at the people who wear said perfume. Immediately my mind goes to "Baccarat Rouge 540 (Eau de Parfum) | Maison Francis Kurkdjian" , "Cloud (Eau de Parfum) | Ariana Grande" , and "Sauvage (Eau de Toilette) | Dior" but there are plenty of other examples. I have even been guilty of this myself! But sometimes I feel like shouting, "Popular things are popular for a reason!" Or reminding some of us of where most of our fragrance journeys started, with a "popular" or even "over-done" fragrance that everyone was talking about or wearing that we really fell in love with. It is not a sin to like things that other people also like or wear! If you really prefer more niche houses or notes, more power to you. But let's not pretend like we don't understand why most people would prefer to smell like a vanilla cupcake than a oud barnyard. any recommendatios for those who are not perfume lovers? I love this question! When you say that you are not a "perfume lover" do you mean that you do not have extensive experience or knowledge about perfume or that you don't like most perfumes and want scent suggestions that are more natural or un-perfume-like?

Female lavender parfum

... There are a few pretty easily accessible scents that I feel fit the bill here. My mind goes to "Mon Guerlain (Eau de Parfum) | Guerlain" , "Coffee Break | Maison Margiela" , and "Angham / انغام | Lattafa / لطافة" . Many of these are not marketed particularly for their use of lavender but all of them have lavender very present in my experience. My husband's signature scent is Coffee Break, and it dries down to the most clean, fresh, and addictive lavender on him! Mon Guerlain is of course an iconic one, and the most pricey I believe, but it is just so timeless and beautiful. I just added Angham to my collection recently and it is absolutely beautiful as well. All of these fragrances are inoffensive and would work well for an office setting as well.

... climabro Hi, I'm new here. I enjoy making my own room and body sprays with essential oils. I would love to take a class on perfume making someday. I am interested in gourmand, green and more recently citrus scents. I usually veer away from floral unless it's realistic. I'm going through a Diptyque addiction which really developed when I got diagnosed with Celiac disease and had to stop eating out at restaurants. I think fragrances give me the experience of being able to try someone's creations which I can't have with food anymore. I'm glad to have joined the community ! Hey! I also have celiac, and it definitely was a hard transition in every area of life! I often joke that that's why I love yummy gourmand scents, because it's filling a whole in my heart <3
