Interesting Facts
Kencur (bot. Kaempferia galanga), also known as aromatic ginger, sand ginger, cutcherry or lesser galangal, is a plant species native to India belonging to the ginger family. When freshly sliced or grated, the rhizome has an intensely spicy, slightly peppery and sharply lemony aroma, similar to ginger, though sharper and more medicinal than this. The edible flowers, on the other hand, give off a very intense, sweet and fresh scent, which is used in South-East Asia, amongst other things, to flavour rice.
