Interesting Facts
Azarole (bot. Crataegus azarolus), also known as azerole, is a species of hawthorn in the rose family, native to the region stretching from the Mediterranean to Iran. The flowers have a rather unpleasant fishy, putrid smell, but the fruits are edible and have a tart, apple-like flavour. Another name for it is Mediterranean medlar, although the plant does not belong to the medlar family.
