Fynbos is a biome in southwestern South Africa. A distinction is made between coastal fynbos and mountain fynbos. It is a herbaceous and shrubby landscape characterized primarily by shrubby sclerophyllous plants. Many of the plant species found here are endemic. Typical plant families found in this landscape, with several species present, include: Aegopodaceae, Penaeaceae, Strophantaceae, Stilbaceae, and Bruniaceae.
