Palo Santo is the name given to the wood of the Bursera graveolens tree, which is native to South America. A distinctive feature is that the tree does not need to be felled to harvest the wood, as it acquires its unique aroma as it dies naturally; consequently, Palo Santo is primarily obtained from collected deadwood. Palo Santo has a warm, woody, balsamic scent, with a slight sweetness that is vaguely reminiscent of coconut. Sometimes, gentle smoky notes are also present.
