Fabulous Oriental Vanilla
Top Notes: Violet, Black Currant, Passionfruit, Bergamot, Brazilian Rosewood.

Heart Notes: Rose, Jasmine, Tuberose, Geranium.

Base Notes: Vanilla, Praline, Amber, Musk, Tonka Bean.

Wow!! Just wow!!! I ordered this blindly based on the notes and the reviews, and I am so glad I did. This is a beautiful Oriental. As soon as I sprayed it, I was immediately very favourably impressed. This smells much more expensive than it is. It smells very classy, too. I am stunned at how gorgeous this is!

I believe I discern vanilla, amber, rosewood, violet, and rose for sure. It is a very rich smelling fragrance. I HIGHLY recommend this. It should be selling for a lot more money than it is selling for now, and I will go so far as to say that it is not only back up bottle worthy, it is also signature worthy! I could not be more pleased with Red Pearl. If only every blind buy was this fantastic, we would all be very happy indeed! I wish I knew who is the nose behind this fragrance.

My only criticism of Red Pearl is its longevity. It becomes a skin scent after roughly two hours. It is completely gone after four hours, so reapplication is necessary, but at this price point, that is not a significant problem.

Fragrance: 10/10

Projection: 5/10

Sillage: 5/10

Longevity: 4/10

An Oriental Surprise
After giving this a very quick evaluation a while ago it got stored at the back of my scent-wardrobe where it kept getting overlooked till I found it on a chilly february day and I -finally- decided to test this sweetie for a whole day and see what surprises it had in store. Boy, is this a beauty!

My first thought was: If Shalimar & Cabochard had a love-child, Red Pearl would be the result. On my skin it's a rich vanilla (NOT cloying or overly sweet but rather a sensual vanilla) with a very lush rosewood note that gets quickly accompanied by a cozy tonka-bean. Hints of florals and fruits further beautify this hidden gem that could be your next *secret* scent that people wonder about! The dry-down is a warm amber with a civet vibe. I also get (throughout) a smokey sensation that is not at all disturbing but rather adds to its oriental feel.

Despite the friendly price it's not cheap smelling at all! It smells very complex and lush. An addictive and warm vanilla Oriental that is a must sniff for vanilla/Oriental fans! If you like scents in the vein of Shalimar and/or Cabochard this is a wonderful addition to your collection, simply because it's closely related to the two, yet different enough to be true to itself.

Silage is: you have entered an amazing Oriental Souq! -- Longevity is 6+ hours in which it travels through a few stages of enchantment then settles on a warm close to the skin amber base with a touch of rose.

A real treat for a friendly price! Try it and be amazed (I was!) : )

Of Foundlings and Vineyards
In one of my recent reviews, I discussed a Xerjoff fragrance, the crème de la crème of luxury perfumery, but today I’m taking on an absolute counterpart - a cheapie of unknown origin without noble lineage.

Okay, I’m exaggerating a bit; I was able to find out some things about my foundling. The perfume has been produced since 1998/1999 on behalf of SPCC Paris Bleu, a company whose business partner in North America was called Red Pearl Inc. and still is. In June 2021, SPCC Paris Bleu underwent a complete relaunch and is now simply called SPCC - Société Parisienne de Parfums & Cosmétiques. On the company’s website, the Red Pearl is praised as a significant emblematic perfume that has shaped the history of SPCC with its overwhelming success.

As you can see, the supposed orphan still has a notable, albeit somewhat convoluted, origin - very much in the style of 19th-century pulp novels :) However, not much can be found out about SPCC's perfumes - it is only known that they are developed in collaboration with renowned (but unnamed) perfumers and produced in Honfleur, Normandy. And - that they are incredibly affordable.

So, the question arises - can a perfume currently priced at €24.99 fulfill all that one expects from a decent perfume? At least smell nice and be long-lasting? Or would such a scent just be junk? Well, I would say the Red Pearl holds its own :) But don’t forget - I haven’t tested too many fragrances yet, so take my review with caution. Certainly, given the low price, a very decent portion of synthetic fragrance materials is also present.

So, the Red Pearl is feminine in fragrance direction, fruity-spicy-floral, and warm. The scent pyramid is neither too lush nor too minimalistic and does not come across as too trivial. However, I can hardly pick out the individual notes; I can only report on the changes in the scent progression: at first, I perceive a somewhat drier, herb-sweet note that then increasingly gains warmth, sweetness, spiciness, and a certain “juiciness.” I find this heart note very attractive - it feels caressing, warming from within, and evokes a strong association with grape punch. And believe me - the perfume name and the appearance of the bottle did not influence me; I got this red grape vibe immediately after the first test :) For me, the scent is not necessarily oriental - I think more of vineyards in southern France, warm rays of sunshine, golden autumn, and sweet grape must. In the drydown, the scent retains this grape juice note, which, however, loses intensity and fades away pleasantly and quietly.

The longevity is above average: over 8 hours with projection and sillage, and then an additional 4 hours close to the skin.

So, I am satisfied with my foundling - it is a scent that brings joy, has an attractive presence, is wearable for many occasions, and - in my opinion - does not smell “cheap.” It even has a recognizability factor - at least for me - and thus is not generically appealing. A truly worthy, very feminine fragrance that ensures beautiful cozy hours in autumn but is also usable year-round. The adoption was a success! :)

PS. A little tip: if you want to test the perfume "live," you can find it regularly in the perfume departments of the large department store that emerged a few years ago from two venerable chains.

With Student Rate on the Orient Express
After a disappointing experience with expensive fragrances, I grabbed this little kitschy fellow out of frustration, as he was nice to me, easy to get, and made me smell good (unlike certain secret agents in brightly colored bottles).
For a rather symbolic fee (about 12 euros/60ml EDP), you get a lovely light oriental that combines a few fruity notes, many floral ones (violets!), and sufficient gourmand elements. Something irritates me a bit right from the first second; I suspect it's the rosewood, but then it quickly takes off with the Orient Express in a very beautiful and sensually warm direction. The breeze carries the delightful scents of flowers, spices, and fruits through the train, and you feel exotically feminine and socially compatible, knowing that you won't overwhelm anyone with this perfume.
In the middle, it becomes even softer, more floral, and the fruits recede. The dry down is gently and warmly vanilla. Longevity is good.
Red Pearl is light but by no means flat-chested; rather, it is very rich, almost opulent, just without being overpowering.
A chic and wearable day and evening fragrance that feels good, where everything is balanced and well mixed. Although I would swear that there's also a touch of mild floral honey in it, the sweetness always holds back and only slightly emphasizes the aromas.
A beautiful and interesting perfume; whoever created it had something in mind. They wanted us to smell good and nothing else.

Friendly semi-oriental with a pleasant timbre, slightly sweet, my girlfriend says: a mix of L'Heure Bleue and Casmir. Great for the price.

A heavy, full-bodied, moderately sweet oriental with floral notes on a soft wood.
A lovely candidate for autumn/winter.
