Gentle Ride
A scent twin to my signature fragrance? And that at just about 1/3 of the price? Can that even be possible?
The short answer: sort of
First of all, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to Flickchen, who sent me a sample of Arabian Horse :)
So here I am, ready to let the stallion from Parfums de Marly face off against the Arabian challenger.
Confidently, I spray Herod on my right arm. Immediately, this wonderful sweet-spicy note forms around me. It's love at first sniff!
A bit nervously, I reach for the sample of AH and spray it on my left arm.
However, unlike with Herod, nothing comes to meet me at first.
As I approach my left arm, an interesting sweetness reveals itself. Not a sugar punch, more like a sugar caress.
A gentle vanilla note, enveloped by something I can't quite identify, but it's intriguing.
I sniff again at my right arm, and Herod shows me everything. Its sweetness, its spiciness, and its earthy note. All in a wonderful dance of scents. Oh yes, I love you!
On my left arm, AH begins its gallop. The initial sweetness has faded a bit, giving more room to the vanilla. However, it doesn't smell like "typical" vanilla, rather softer, gentler. Unfortunately, I find it hard to describe. Like a mix between a diluted vanilla car air freshener and a cake.
Along with it and the sweetness, a slightly earthy note is added.
Everything feels lighter, more ethereal, more restrained.
The longevity is good. I have AH on my arm for a good three hours and can still perceive it well.
However, I do need to get a bit closer. The sillage seems weaker to me than with Herod.
Is AH now a twin of Herod?
In my eyes, no. It is gentler than Herod, offers less spiciness, and doesn't dance quite as well.
Nevertheless, I see it as a very good fragrance that will definitely join my collection.
Even a gentle ride knows how to impress.
/Addendum
After about 5 hours of gentle riding on my left arm, the spiciness emerges a bit stronger, without disturbing the vanilla. The scent becomes slightly more masculine, yet remains gentle and truly beautiful.
Close your eyes, inhale, enjoy.
