Soapy Masterpiece

Having 30 masculine fragrances introduced in the 60's through the 90's in my collection, Sung Homme is the most soapy of any and the only purple juice I have. The opening is dominated by a strong soapy smell and feel with subdued spiciness underneath. I also got the occasional, subtle whiff of cigarette smoke but no where near as strong as with Quorum. As it dries down, the soapiness lessens and the typical fougere components appear, namely biting florals, oakmoss, woody notes and a bit of conifer. The soapiness remains, though, for the life of the fragrance. From beginning to end, Sung Homme has a very pleasant smell - no screechy or nose burning openings.

And speaking of Sung Homme's life, unlike many cheapies from that era still in production, the performance is surprisingly good. It took about 10 hours for it to become a skin scent. Projection was also quite good for a couple of hours. It's not a beast-mode, fumigate-a-room strong but definitely makes its presence known.

I tested a sample from current production Sung Homme. If you're a guy who likes fragrances from that era AND likes soapiness, definitely try it. An extra benefit is that it's dirt cheap. In the US, I can pick up a new 100ml bottle (current production) in a tester box for $11. Makes me wonder how a company can put out such a delicious fragrance with good performance for so cheap while niche houses can put out mediocre scents with water-like performance and have the audacity to charge 20 times - or more - the cost of Sung Homme. I'll definitely be adding Sung Homme to my next fragrance order.

Careful, niche apologists might get their feathers ruffled with that last paragraph!
Almost convinced to blind buy this one based on how much you liked it, 15$ in EU most of the time, but overt soapiness makes can make me nauseous. I've heard Rabanne Pour Homme often times described as very soapy and I got along with that one just fine. How do the two compare?

Those are some feathers that should be ruffled! lol
Sung Homme is soapier than Paco, so be careful.

If the grandpa journey has taught me anything, it's that I love the natural soapy vibe.
Not just from lavender but also from a smooth combination of florals that doesn't turn powdery.
I already ordered samples for this month, but will grab this one in May (it's available).
