Not your typical fougère

"Beach Hut Man" is an odd name for this perfume. Instead of marine and salty notes, you'll be greeted by green and woody ones. There are aroma chemicals with lavender and lemon naunces and of course coumarin, so it has all the makings of a fougère.

What makes it stand out is the underlying sweetness of myrrh, grounding the scent while providing the Amouage character. It ties the whole scent profile together, making it easier to digest. This is such a great contrast to the sharp green notes and heavy moss.

Bracken Man is a spicier, clove-centric fragrance. Instead of cypress, Beach Hut Man focuses on an uplifting mint note that stays present for the first 30 minutes of the wear. Geranium is replaced by a more bitter, pungent galbanum. To push the sharpness even further, a gorgeous, spicy ivy note enters the mix.

This green assault on your senses lasts for about 15-20 minutes, then the scent becomes mossy with a golden touch of honey sweetness from myrrh. It's a weird and intoxicating combination of notes, which is exactly what I would expect from Amouage venturing into the fougère genre. "Log Cabin Man" isn't catchy, but it would be more fitting.

With its woody backbone, a masculine moss note and earthy vetiver, it evokes the imagery of a log cabin at the edge of a forest. While it starts out all fresh and bitter, let's not forget we're dealing with a 30% oil concetration from Amouage. The more it develops, the deeper you delve into the forest - it's dense and long lasting.

You can expect at least 9-10 hours on skin with loud projection for 3-4 hours. Such beastly performance is outstanding for a green scent. Indeed, it shines the most during spring and summer, but given its power and density, it can be worn during the colder months as well.

Great review! You've convinced me to sample it again. First time was disappointing because I expected (and was looking for) an aquatic. With that behind me, I have to try it again without that expectation.

Treat is as a beast mode green scent and your expectations will certainly be met!
Amouage isn’t always the best with names haha.

I plan on buying a bottle in feb/march!
The interplay between moss and myrrh is spectacular.

Well written & a great review! Been tempted to blind buy for awhile now but I feel that there's a good chance it won't agree with my skin chemistry. How potent is the vetiver in this?

I haven't tried BdJ yet, I'll let you know when I smell it.
But yeah by the looks of it, BHM is a much denser and long lasting composition. The absolute peak of green scents for sure.

TDH is always invigorating to me as well. I like your description; everything I hear and read about this scent interests me, it sounds like the green to end all greens. Would you say there is any comparison at all to Beau de Jour by Tom Ford?

To me it's definitely cool and a bit damp. Think of a forest with bitter plants, tree bark with resin seeping out, ground covered in moss.
I find the composition incredibly versatile. Cooling in spring/summer and refreshing in fall/winter.
Take that with a grain of salt because I'm the kind of a guy who wears Terre d'Hermès on a freezing winter morning and finds it invigorating.

It's weirdness is definitely part of the appeal to me. I hear a lot of people refer to this as jungle hut man which gives me the impression that the green notes in here are warm/humid. You mention in your description that it feels like log cabin man, which to me gives me more of a cooling vibe in my head. What type of temperature does this scent give off and in what situations do you find it best suited for?

Thanks man, I appreciate it!
I only pick it up because I'm a sucker for vetiver scents. In reality, it's more of a feint touch, completely overruled by the power of moss.
Not sure I'd recommend blind buying, it's such a weird scent. Took me a few wears to fully appreciate it. Definitely sample first.

It's a sharp scent that grows on you for sure! Myrrh is ingenious here.
I suggest sampling this as well as Reckless Leather for an even spicier take that rewards your fortitude with a soothing sandalwood drydown.
