Ubar...all good things come in threes!
I have them all...all three versions of Ubar...
The original from 1995, bought in 2001 personally in Oman at the Amouage factory in Muscat.
Back then, hardly anyone in the travel group had ever heard of “Amouage,” but we were all amazed by the treasures we got to see and smell there.
Dreams from 1001 Nights, bottles precious and noble, scents rich like the Orient. That was “Amouage.”
Last summer, my nose tricked me into thinking that my souvenir bottle was empty. There were still about 5 ml left, and after nearly 18 years, that should have been it. The sorrow was great, and thus the search began. The vintage version is nearly impossible to find.
So I had no choice but to buy the new version. The brand new one, with a magnetic cap.
Oh wow, what was that?
Initially similar to the original version, but in development, it was no longer comparable. The punch had become milder, everyday wearable, but by no means 1001 Nights anymore. A modern animalic oriental that you can also wear well in the office.
Why not!
Not entirely satisfied with that version, I stumbled upon the 2009 version. Not with a magnetic cap, but with a transparent plastic cover.
Well, that came closer to the vintage version. Longevity and sillage were phenomenal, the base a bit more vanilla-like, but otherwise quite acceptable. So, here too, an evening perfume for the grand appearances, from which you could still get something the next day.
And yet... the original version...
what can I say...naughty nose...about being empty! A small spray is enough, and there it is again...I’m floating on a carpet, and Sinbad is accompanying me...that is the Orient...that is “Amouage,” that is “Ubar”!
It's a shame that everything has to become modern...
5 ml...I hope they last forever!
PS: I returned the “new version” (it just wasn’t it) and managed to snag an old vintage bottle.
Sorry to everyone who only gets to know the new version. That is no longer “Ubar”!

It's actually a completely new fragrance that needs its own category.
I don't want to say it's bad. I think it's okay, but anyone who knows the original won't be satisfied with the new version.
