luxurious gift
A friend brought me this treasure from Oman in 2003. While I simultaneously knew that it would remain unattainable, I enjoyed this precious gem. It doesn't surprise me that this treasure was not kept available industrially. After all, perfume is ALSO a natural product, and unfortunately, we lack insight into the true decision-making reasons of the manufacturers.
Ubar has set my standard for oriental perfumes: spicy, floral, soft, incense-like and golden, luxurious and precious. Not listed in the fragrance pyramid, but I particularly liked the scent because of the Arabic incense, which is distinctly different from that used in European churches, spicier and sweeter (available in specialty shops for burning).
The scent of Ubar can be described as "completely-rounded," nothing is missing, no wish remains unfulfilled. Luxurious floral abundance, spice, and spirit. A radiant temple filled with blooming lilies and roses, blending their fragrance with Arabic incense lamps and spice aromas. Inevitably, a sensually tangible spirituality.
Spiritually and sensually at the same time, is that even possible? Yes, certainly! But please not as opposites or contradictions, rather in a complementary combination, it is true abundance that one can call "holy": respectful because influential and blessing on every level. Healing. Round. Whole. Complete.
Whether you believe it or not... while I write this, it feels as if I can smell Ubar, but it is probably the vivid memory. At some point, such a complete rich luxury scent will appear again, just don’t let your nose grow tired, dear friends. Until then, I rub Arabic incense between my fingers while I smell my roses, a ritual as a homage to the beloved "Ubar."
