Scottish Fireplace Evening - Outside

TLDR: A very nicely earthy, woody scent for cool autumn and winter days.

I came across this fragrance through several connections. I felt like trying out perfume and, with an order of Eau d'Iparie (2016) and "Framboise & Thé Vert Matcha / Raspberry & Matcha Green Tea | L'Occitane en Provence," I blindly and naively tossed my first two fragrances into the cart - two lucky hits for me (thankfully). However, they have become a bit too summery for me, and I started looking for something for autumn. Since I liked the combination of fruit and tea in "Framboise & Thé Vert Matcha / Raspberry & Matcha Green Tea | L'Occitane en Provence," I searched for tea fragrances that are not quite so summery and fruity and stumbled upon "Earl Grey (Eau de Parfum) | Angela Flanders." And, since I got stuck with Angela Flanders, I soon found "Aqua Alba | Angela Flanders." So, again two blind purchases, as I didn't want to spend more money on shipping than on the sample itself, there was no sample available for "Aqua Alba | Angela Flanders," and a trip to London to try it would have been more expensive... and once again, I got lucky!

Last year, I took a trip through Scotland. For hiking and strolling through beautiful, historic towns. Oh yes, and the Scots know a thing or two about whisky. During one hike, a spicy-earthy scent suddenly filled the air. And without having smelled it before, I knew: someone is heating with peat.

When my package from Angela Flanders arrived and I tried "Aqua Alba | Angela Flanders," I found myself mentally back there: in the beautiful Scottish landscape, in the cool, damp air, while someone at home is making it cozy and warm. Perhaps it also helped that a photo from the vacation is still my desktop background.

I must also say that I am glad that peat is not the only scent note. Because even though it is a lovely memory, I wouldn’t have wanted the smell of burning peat as a perfume. But embedded in the spiciness, earthiness, and woodiness of labdanum, guaiac wood, and patchouli, the peat contributes to a unique, rounded scent that manages to evoke the memory - without taking it too literally with the actual smell of burning peat.

I am pleased to have found a fragrance for autumn in Aqua Alba that not only smells good but also has a story for me. Even though the vacation and the purchase are a year apart.

One downside to the otherwise stylish bottle: the sprayer tends to sneeze rather than spray. Maybe I need to invest in a decent travel sprayer.
