Nomen est Omen! If you want to know what amber smells like, this perfume is a great way to experience it. This is not a given, as very often in those perfumes that have a single fragrance note as their namesake (amber, sandalwood, musk, etc.), there is still a bit of this and that mixed in, and in the end, you have a nice scent, but the typical character of the name has been stripped away.
However, this amber shows what the term "ambery" means: warm, rounded, slightly sweet, and somewhat opulent. Amber dominates, its opulence is further supported by a bit of creamy musk. I haven't really picked up on the interesting other notes - like heliotrope, for example. Amber is the quintessential warm, sweet men's fragrance. When one associates the "English" attribute and the corresponding brands with the herbal, creaky barber shop style, this perfume deviates a bit. It does have a very traditional feel to it, though.
As with Duncan, I notice the straightforwardness and simplicity of the scent. No refined play of contrasting notes, no remarkable scent development, nothing experimental or extraordinary. Amber is an honest fragrance; I perceive the quality as good, nothing scratches, and you wouldn't want to demand more at this price.
Amber could appeal as an uncomplicated, yet substantial and warm men's fragrance, especially for the cooler days. I don't like it in its one-dimensionality. Instead of thickening the ambery character with musk, I would have wished for some contrast. However, then it wouldn't be a typical amber anymore.
You should definitely try Amber Absolute by Tom Ford. It's pure amber as well. Why is it called Amber pour Homme by Prada anyway? It doesn't smell like amber at all!
