Gelsomino Antica Farmacia degli Monaci Camaldolesi

The name of this perfume - which simply means "jasmine" in German - makes me think of the female lead in "La Strada - The Song of the Road." The showman Zampano (Anthony Quinn), a rather insensitive, boastful macho, buys the young Gelsomina (Giulietta Masina) from her impoverished mother. From then on, the girl has to travel with him across the country and announce the performance of the "great Zampano" dressed as a clown at fairs. A life of deprivation and misfortune that tragically ends young.

I had blindly bid on the nearly half-full bottle. "Gelsomino" starts with a powerful jasmine note that almost seems animalistic. This type of jasmine scent is described elsewhere as "carrion-like." Fortunately, the jasmine moderates very quickly. The fragrance then leans more towards powdery, but above all, soapy. It doesn't feel fresh to me, and I can't detect any citrus notes that appear in the fragrance classification. Despite the brutal opening, the longevity on my skin is not particularly long.
"Gelsomino" doesn't really convince me! The reference perfume for the theme of "strong jasmine" remains "A la Nuit" for me anyway.

Poor Gelsomina would probably have appreciated a piece of jasmine soap!
