I was actually expecting a spicy, fresh fragrance. Grapefruit, ginger, wood - that sounds like a blend with plenty of character. And sure enough, those notes are noticeable at first. The grapefruit, however, isn't particularly bitter or zesty, but rather sweet and soft. The ginger adds a touch of spice, while the wood gives the whole thing a pleasant framework.
But then the sweetness takes over. And it does so pretty decisively.
Anyone waiting for a big change might be disappointed. Nobles stays remarkably true to its sweet character. After a while, you'd need a good deal of imagination to detect the spiciness at all. But you know what? That doesn't bother me one bit! Quite the opposite. I think this fragrance is simply incredible. It has an intensity and presence that won me over from the very first moment. An absolute powerhouse, without needing any complicated scent development.
To my nose, Nobles leans more feminine, by the way. That's not a judgment, just my personal impression. Its soft, pronounced sweetness suits it beautifully and is a big part of its appeal for me.
I’d probably leave it on the shelf in summer. It’s simply too intense and too sweet for me. But once it gets cooler outside, that’s a different story. I could easily wear Nobles every day in fall and winter. It’s not a fragrance I feel I need to save for special occasions.
There’s little to complain about when it comes to performance, either. Nobles projects strongly and remains clearly noticeable for many hours. If you prefer subtle, close-to-the-skin fragrances, that’s worth keeping in mind.
I could spend ages philosophizing about whether more ginger, a little less sweetness or a more interesting development might have improved the fragrance. Maybe. But why nitpick something I like this much exactly as it is?
Nobles simply makes me happy when I smell it. And sometimes that’s the best quality a perfume can have.
