The Co-Founder of Aquatism

The 70s. Disco music. Studio 54. Coke. It was loud, it was flashy.

Mid-80s. The post-punk era. No one is really thinking about Nirvana yet. A young band from France dares to do something radically new. Something refreshing. Something that has never existed before.

GIT, CW, and NW. Their sound is new.

GIT. The actual founder of the band. Singer and bassist. His ancestors come from England. He is an extroverted gentleman with character. His trademark. Always on stage in a perfectly fitted suit.

CW. The macho. Guitarist. The poster boy of the 80s Bravo era. He is the rockstar in the trio. Extroverted. Womanizer. In retrospect, the most famous of them all.

GIT and CW come from Paris. You can tell. They are cosmopolitan. NW is different. He grew up in Normandy. Only later did he move to Paris with his family. He is the drummer. He unmistakably sets the rhythm. A beast on the big stage. In real life, more settled and introverted than the other two. And not as well-known, which has never really bothered him.

They rocked the big stages of the world. Wembley. Madison Square Garden. The finale of their South America tour took place at the Maracana. More than 500,000 people at Copacabana. Always with a minimalist stage show.

Many other bands imitated them in the early 90s. With more or less success. By the late 90s, then came the big shock. They broke up. The music world was once again looking for something new. The sweet boy bands that the girls were so crazy about.

It never really went quiet around the three.

GIT is still touring the stages of the world. With his new band, he plays his hits from days gone by. Still always elegant in a suit. He has hardly changed in appearance. The ticket prices for his shows are still steep. His shows are something you don’t indulge in every time, but they are worth every penny.

CW has changed. No wonder with this lifestyle. Rumor has it he might even be in the next jungle camp. He’ll do anything for money. He can still live well off his fame from days gone by. He doesn’t have quite as much power as he used to. But still has character. And when you hear him play on his old guitar, you recognize what a great he once was.

NW has become more low-key. After the band broke up, he moved to California. He lives there with his second wife. He is still working as a drummer. He founded a jazz band and is touring the small clubs along the West Coast of the USA. You don’t have to pay much to see him. But you still get a lot in return. He has become a bit wiser, a little more polished. But still unmistakably NW. You should treat yourself to his shows every now and then. Such things are rare these days.

Maybe there will be a comeback someday?!

Best regards
