Sometimes it can also be old school

I remember Tuscany from the days when it was called Etruscan. My father had it as an aftershave and I really liked this scent on him. Unfortunately, he died too soon and I was left as a young man to get along with myself and the world without Daddy.

As a 22-year-old, I picked up Etruscan as an aftershave balm and was then reprimanded by a roommate in my student flat share that there were better fragrance options for me as a youngster than wearing such an "old man's fragrance". I complied with her request and from then on only used fragrances that went in a more fresh, youthful direction. What's more, I hardly gave perfume a second thought over the next 25 years and so Etruscan disappeared from my field of vision.

Now in my late 40s, I became aware of perfume again through influencers and in the process the thought of Etruscan came back to me. Thanks to the internet, I found it again: now it was called Tuscany. And I ordered it as a blind buy.

The first thought that popped into my head when I smelled it was: "Wow! I don't remember it being that spicy!" According to my nose, today's formulation is very much in the direction of aniseed. My memory had a citrusy hint above all the spiciness, which I no longer find in this form today. However, it should be noted that my father used it as an aftershave and I used it as an aftershave balm. My new purchase was the EdT and I suspect that the fragrances are much more potent.

All in all, however, it remains a beautiful fragrance to my nose and I am glad that I am reminded of my father every time I put it on. I also feel mature enough to wear old-school fougere now that I'm in my late 40s. And Tuscany is definitely one to recommend.
