Wilderness Avon Eau de Toilette

Into the Chypre
I could never really get into Avon as a brand... but that's what Wikipedia is for! Because in order to properly test my two minis (or are they large samples?) Friktion & Wilderness, I needed some background information. New York brand, Avon ladies/sellers, seemingly giving up on animal testing, didn’t want to be bought by Coty. So far, so good.
Wilderness isn’t really wild... but it is definitely green & very 80s Chypre-like! At least for the few hours it stays on the skin, as fleeting as it is. I first thought it was due to the combination of carnival sweat hangover and cold yesterday, but today it was just as quickly gone, making it necessary to concentrate (or take notes) to gather enough information for a description. I was able to reduce the scent to 2 basic notes, which isn’t unfair here, as Wilderness is really simple: oakmoss & artificial almost-lavender/lavandin. It’s classic, masculine, a quiet macho from past times, and reminds more of aftershave than what we understand as perfume today. Imagine a quick wet shave with grandpa’s aftershave in the green spring nature - that’s roughly what Wilderness smells like. Nice, but the simultaneously tested Friktion had much more to offer, even if it sometimes called out with shoulder pads and Modern Talking!
Bottle: somehow totally 80s, I think.
Sillage & longevity: did I get aftershaves? Super discreet & gone after 2-3 hours!
Conclusion: a fleeting retro Chypre in the footsteps of Denim Original & Co. ... Price/performance is right!
