The Lost Romance

As most here know, I often don't hesitate long and write a comment after just one or two test days. Sometimes I regret this when I discover new facets of a fragrance after weeks, and sometimes I simply update the comment. But Acteur has been in my collection for weeks now; it rarely takes this long for a comment to be finished. Not because of its special complexity, nor because of an extraordinary nature, whether positive or negative. Alongside a lot of stress and ongoing health issues, there was simply a feeling that I should give the fragrance more time, similar to how I felt about the equally wonderful Insense back then.

Acteur is a gentleman and bachelor of the old school, without being even remotely kitschy, slimy, or overly romantic. I love roses for men and have tested quite a few - Acteur is among the absolute best of this kind. It's a pity that it is so unknown, and may soon even be discontinued. The better for me, the fewer people wear it, the cheaper (35€) it was to snag on the bay. For me, it's on a level with Azzaro's Pour Homme and its underrated brother. It's not just underrated, but rather criminally neglected, I would say. But it came along similarly to Givenchy's Insense at the wrong time, far too ahead of its time.

Actually, this actor is not that complicated, but somehow he is a character actor. The rose is unmistakable for me, sometimes harsh and prickly, sometimes softer and romantic. It reveals all the facets that a man with manners and decency can carry. Undoubtedly the head of the family, but still a gentleman of the old school, I would say from the 1920s. Here, doors are held open, the restaurant bill is paid, there is real listening, protection, and the woman is carried on hands. That's how it should be, and it has become far too rare nowadays. Alongside this versatile rose, many spices give off another masculine quality. A spicy rose charmer. Nutmeg, oakmoss, caraway, cardamom - everything is balanced here, never tipping into the overly harsh realm, even less into sweet territories. A light hint of leather envelops the base where the rose is still present. Grandiose cinema like Casanova, Robin Hood, or even the first James Bond.

Bottle: simple and not a pretty boy.
Sillage: definitely a bachelor with edges and corners.
Longevity: very variable - sometimes 6 hours, sometimes almost 10.

An outstanding rose for men. Romantic, but not watered down. High quality and also with recognizability. Anyone looking for affordable hidden gems and feeling at home somewhere between Black Tie, G-Men, and Lyric Man should grab this quickly before prices rise.

Signed! Although in my opinion, Acteur also radiates a certain melancholy, typical of character actors :)! I just managed to snag a supply of aftershaves and EDTs, thank goodness!

Great insightful comment, and today, as your sample arrived - I have it again... my very first perfume treasure from the 90s. Wow, what an amazing blend, so confident and unpretentious in its simple bottle. I bow deeply before the master of this creation - and your comment. Trophy!

I mostly smell rose, rose, and more rose. It's really intense... especially with the quite powerful sillage. I think wearing this fragrance requires a huge amount of self-confidence; you really have to have that.

Man, you should be banned from writing comments like this (and the others who made this scent sound so tempting too). I'm going to order it blindly now. You guys are so mean.
