Love at Second Sight

Since I love rose fragrances very much - my long-time signature scent was Bulgari's “Rose Essentielle,” I am always on the lookout for more beautiful rose scents. Unfortunately, Bulgari is no longer produced, so it was time for me to look elsewhere. Here in the community, when searching for beautiful floral scents, one cannot overlook “Florabotanica.”

The opinions here intrigued me, so I took the plunge and made a blind purchase - I had already had good experiences with this fragrance house with my Balenciaga Paris blind buy.
The first test on my wrist admittedly elicited nothing more than a shrug; I thought it was somehow a typical freshie. Something in it bothered me. The bottle disappeared into the cupboard for a few days, then I dared a “full body” test, sprayed myself generously, and went to work.

And on that day, I fell in love with the scent. I began to understand why it is often described as extraordinary. Images of a spring morning formed in my mind. Spring, not summer. The air is still fresh; it rained during the night. The moisture still lingers on the grass and flowers, slowly evaporating in the rising sun. A wonderful blend of various flowers and herbs fills the air. Clear, pure, and bright. Radiant, but never loud.

Florabotanica is not a typical pure rose scent for me. I perceive so much more, but I cannot exactly pinpoint it. I have never smelled mint and caladium leaf in perfumes before. They probably give the fragrance that fine, green-spicy touch. The scent is very well balanced; nothing stands out. The opening is pleasantly refreshing and somehow “moist,” soon transforming into a very beautiful unsweet freshness that reminds me of freshly washed laundry drying outside in the garden. But with that certain something. Hard to describe, but definitely special. I know no other scent that resembles this. In the drydown, I perceive a subtle, noble soapiness.

Time and again, a wonderful waft of this scent surrounds me on that day, bringing a small smile to my face. It lasts well through a workday, remains easily perceivable, and even lingers on my clothes for a few days without becoming unpleasant.

Florabotanica is truly a gem among floral freshies, and I am heartbroken that it has been discontinued. Just when you fall hopelessly in love…

Very accurately described! You've found the words for many things that were vaguely swirling in my mind. For me, it wasn't love at first sniff either; I find the opening a bit gasoline-like and sharp, but then comes that transformation you describe so interestingly.
