Jasmine Maat Béjar 2014

Okay, this will be easy, it’s just a little jasmine scent. Just! In the meantime, I’ve done six tests and I still wonder how on earth I should describe this fragrance! It’s really a hard nut to crack.

Jasmine? Yes, it smells like jasmine, but not in the way we know it and how I expected it to. But let’s take it step by step:

In the opening, the wonderful scent of the ripest, most aromatic peaches rushes towards me. No matter what the top note says, for me it’s peaches.

Shortly after, the flowers mix in with incredible power! Yet it’s not just jasmine. It’s more like immortelle is playing a role here, although it’s not mentioned in the pyramid. So it could also be the chamomile that creates this cotton-soft cushioning.

At the same time, Jasmine Maat is absolutely unsweetened throughout its entire development, and that’s what has been causing me difficulties all along. Jasmine - even natural jasmine - smells sweet, yet this scent here is not sweet. I slowly approached the fragrance and it took me a while to realize that it’s the lack of sweetness that makes Jasmine Maat so different from other jasmine perfumes I know.

A decent sillage provides good projection, so I’m surrounded by a real jasmine cloud for several hours.

The base notes stabilize the scent, but are individually not perceivable. After a few hours, the fragrance becomes calmer and softer.

Jasmine Maat is an unusual scent and it requires an unusual wearer. It goes without saying that she must like jasmine to enjoy this fragrance!

However, even though it’s a very well-made scent, it doesn’t make it onto my wish list.
