Subjunctive Comment

Writing a comment on a perfume is by no means easy. How do I approach it, how do I make it worthwhile and interesting without digressing and making it boring or even uninformative for the interested reader? To this end, I would like to attempt a small experiment...

In the lengthy study of law, one learns a certain writing style, the so-called "opinion style." This is designed to break down a complex issue into its legally relevant individual parts and lead to a solution.

To do this, one first employs a subjunctive main clause in which a hypothetical result is presented.
(Example: Person A could have a claim for payment of the purchase price of the perfume bottle X according to § 433 II BGB against Person B if a valid purchase contract has been established between the two.)

Then, one defines the whole in the so-called definition. (Here: What is necessary for a valid purchase contract to come into being...)

The main part of the opinion then follows in the "subsumption." Here, the specific case to be examined is applied to the previously named criteria and concluded with a result (which is then no longer expressed in the subjunctive).

Let's see what comes of this when applied to a subjective fragrance evaluation.

Main Clause:
The Eau de Parfum eo02 from Biehl Parfumkunstwerke could represent a good scent if it pleases the author and does not irritate the nose.

Definition:
The author likes a scent and it does not irritate the nose if it:
1. possesses a certain pleasant freshness without radiating a too citrusy sour-drop attitude,
2. has floral notes in the heart, which, from the author's perspective, must not become too feminine,
3. becomes warmer and drier towards the base, without becoming too sweet,
4. has a non-linear but also not too abrupt progression in the overall view.

Subsumption:
Regarding 1.: eo02 starts with a fresh herb-sweet grapefruit note that is surrounded by resinous-green galbanum. The scent impression is not typically summery beach promenade fresh but rather conveys the impression of a summer walk through the woods after a brief heavy shower. Not that eo02 smells like a forest, it just creates this scent impression, likely supported by the indicated cardamom and coriander notes, which the author does not pick out individually. This naturally masculine-herb scent pleases the author exceptionally well.
Regarding 2.: Despite the indicated jasmine and rose, eo02 is not a floral scent. In the heart, it gains spiciness. Clearly, the author notices the clove, which conveys the impression of a classic Bay Rum aftershave. However, eo02 manages not to drift completely in this direction but retains a certain fruity lightness. Here, eo02 clearly decides, in the author's opinion, to be a men's fragrance.
Regarding 3.: Towards the base, a wonderfully dry woody cedar-incense mixture emerges, surrounded by an unsweet warmth. Patchouli, vanilla, and cinnamon perfectly round off the scent and convey a pleasantly friendly scent impression that never loses its grounded seriousness.
Regarding 4.: The scent phases are perfectly interwoven, while the fragrance noticeably changes. The green freshness from the beginning remains present throughout, making eo02 a year-round fragrance that seems suitable for almost any occasion to the author.

Result:
eo02 is not just a good scent, but an absolutely wonderful scent. Egon Oelkers reinterprets the classic-elegant men's perfume and transfers it into modernity. He does not do everything differently or completely new; he preserves tried and tested elements and spices them up with clever innovations. A solid 10.

A completely different approach for a comment. So that's great. And definitely informative.

It was very interesting to read about a fragrance from the legal side. The scent also appeals to me.
