The bottled perceptions of Portofino
A few days ago, I visited my trusted perfumery again. I was amazed to see that it had been completely reorganized. "Summer remodeling." I noticed in passing.
My actual goal for the day, to test a few fragrances from Roja Dove, was only half-heartedly fulfilled.
Due to the "summer conversion", a perfumer I had never heard of before caught my eye. The bottles were striking - but somehow not. Discreet and yet luxurious. On closer inspection, I noticed names such as Romance in Florence, Visions of Venice, Mornings in Milano and Portaits of Portofino.
As I had the pleasure of spending one of my best vacations in Portofino, I sprayed it on. I closed my eyes and let the journey of the fragrance begin.
The images of this vacation immediately flashed back through my memories. The journey alone was beautiful. Down a green slope. You could gradually make out the horizon of the Mediterranean. We got closer. Pastel-colored houses lined up next to each other. A truly stunning sight.
In the evening, after a short nap, we looked for a place to start a picturesque vacation. We opted for an initially very inconspicuous and small taverna. When we asked for a table, the polite waiter escorted us through the very small but inviting premises. When we turned a corner, we were greeted by a breathtaking sight. A terrace with a direct view of the Ligurian Sea. To the left, a few of Palermo's beautiful pastel-colored houses, in the middle the moon in the starry sky, below the roaring sea. The whole thing was covered by a canopy of lemon trees. It really was like a movie.
The scent of the sea, the light sillage of lemons wafting in the breeze, the old wood of the inviting taverna.
I opened my eyes and held the fragrance in my hand. Everything in this bottle is really remarkably well realized fragrance-wise. The sillage here is reminiscent of the breeze in which the lemons blow, as highlighted in my short story. It is very, very subtle, but perceptible in a light breeze. The longevity is unfortunately not as nice as my vacation and the rest of the overall package of the Birkholz fragrance. After about three hours, I could hardly notice it anymore.
Nevertheless, a big thank you to Philip Birkholz. You have managed to create a fragrance that takes me back to the most beautiful vacation of my life.
