New York Oud Bond No. 9 2011

Hated Ingredients, Surprisingly Beautiful Composition
By a nice coincidence, I came across a sample of my first Bond No. 9 fragrance. I think the eye-catching bottles are great, but unfortunately, this one isn't included. Normally, I also step back when I read Oud/Rose, as that is not at all my preferred scent direction. Or to put it more clearly: As main ingredients, these are actually a no-go for my olfactory receptors.
Nevertheless, I am somehow positively surprised. Both essences are certainly noticeable, but in a much more pleasant and modern way than I would have expected. You have to imagine it like this: as an Alternative Rock fan, I find myself listening to a Helene Fischer song that I actually don’t mind and suddenly catch myself wanting to sing along! ;-)
I won't rate this fragrance either, as I'm not sure if I will ever wear it outside of my private sniffing sessions. I think the name is quite well chosen, as New York is known to be a melting pot of all possible cultures and trends. Here, a man can wear rose, and a worldly woman can adorn herself with oud. Everyone according to their own taste.
In terms of scent quality, New York Oud certainly belongs in the upper third of my collection. Everything else is a matter of taste, which I ultimately cannot and do not want to answer. But maybe it's a good reason for me to explore other Bond No. 9 fragrances... when I have one of my many weak moments again! ;-)
