The Compliment Catcher
For a few weeks now, I have been the proud owner of Parco Palladiano IV, as I was able to purchase a partially used bottle here at the Souk.
I haven't been able to test all the fragrances in this wonderful line yet, but among the three I know, this one is the absolute winner and at the same time a big surprise for me!
Surprise in the sense that vanilla scents have never ranked high on my popularity scale, as they simply seem too sweet to me.
Vanilla is predominantly associated with sweet things - desserts, cakes, cookies, and all sorts of other treats.
However, if you smell a vanilla pod, you will perceive the typical scent, but it is not sweet.
This became clear to me once again when I spoke with a spice seller shortly before Christmas, who offered a sea salt with vanilla, and I first asked him how this works together and what it could be used for.
He offered it to me to try and pointed out that vanilla in its natural form is not sweet at all, and he is absolutely right; the combination of salt and vanilla convinced me and now has a place in my kitchen.
But what does this have to do with this fragrance?
A lot, because the fact that I could spontaneously get excited about it also has to do with the fact that the vanilla here comes across very fine, almost a bit bitter, and absolutely not sweet.
In combination with the azalea, it creates a wonderfully creamy scent that is not sweet, yet soft and enveloping.
The chestnut in the fragrance pyramid puzzles me a bit, as I have never perceived a scent from a chestnut that has stayed in my memory.
I can only speculate that the slightly bitter note with which the fragrance always greets me is attributable to the chestnut.
Regarding longevity, it can be said that it is quite good, but the fragrance is never intrusive; rather, it is a soft, delicate cloud.
I thought at first that it wouldn't last too long, but since I am often approached hours after spraying it, it is indeed quite perceptible for a long time.
In any case, this Palladiano is an absolute feel-good fragrance that brings me compliments time and again, and for the first time in my life, I wear a fragrance with joy and enthusiasm where vanilla is in the foreground.
