Fruity floral sweet-sour

A slightly unusual citrus-fresh-sour (pear!), intensely red-berry rose on a bit of sweetened saffron. A combination that imbues inner tension with clean floral notes and a distinctly deep, sour-sweet-spicy fruitiness.

Distant associations with Western rose-oud fragrances, but without oud, only with the often added, sweet-sour-spicy saffron. Here in a youthful - but not immature - fresh version. Vibrant naturalness and a somewhat saturating, artificial earthiness. A fruity floral with bite, where the fruit and floral notes appear equally balanced.

Fragrances with a similar character are Jo Malone's woefully underrated ‘Pomegranate Noir’ and Gucci's ‘Guilty Absolute pour Femme’. Both are unusually (red) fruity and underpinned with aromatic spice. The Gucci has "real" oud undertones, while the Jo Malone does without, but gently approaches it with its guaiac wood tone. Also, Maison Francis Kurkdjian's 'Baccarat Rouge 540' clearly serves as a reference here with its ethyl maltol-saffron fusion - in my eyes, the fundamental DNA of the ‘Her’ line - although in this Eau de Toilette, it is in a more reduced form. The Eau de Parfum and the Intense version are designed as sweeter and more established Baccarat Rouge 540 clones. Overall, this one here feels a bit fresher and "younger" than all mentioned.

For me, due to its pronounced sweet-sour-spicy fruitiness, it’s almost a unisex fragrance, which, because of its relatively understated composition of light and slightly dark elements, exhibits all-rounder qualities. It has a tendency towards nose fatigue due to the saturating saffron, but maintains balance thanks to the good (enough freshness!) and pleasantly restrained formulation (Louise Turner, among others, 'Lost Cherry', 'Good Girl'). Moreover, within known genre boundaries (fruity floral), it has a pleasing individuality through pear and saffron.

For me, one of the most positive surprises among designer fragrances of late.

**P.S.:**
The color of the perfume liquid is, in my view, completely misleading. It is neither a green nor an overtly transparent scent. The color of the Intense version would have been more appropriate.

How do you get saffron from this? I can't smell it at all; otherwise, I wouldn't like the scent so much. 😉

You're absolutely right, not everything needs to be listed. Maybe it's the pepper; I don't always like that either. Anyway, every nose perceives things differently. With the regular Her EdP, I don't pick out any notes either... thankfully. ;-) I don't remember the Intense version that well. And with Baccarat Rouge, I'm not a fan of saffron either. *g*

At least none are listed. Still, I think the entire Her line has the basic DNA of Baccarat Rouge (for me, Her Intense is a clone; also by Kurkdjian), where saffron is very prominent. But it could also be that there's none in it, and a similar effect is created through other ingredients. That really supports your theory. I'm generally a bit skeptical about note listings, as not everything is usually included.

Unfortunately, I often find saffron unpleasant.

The reference fragrances you mentioned, along with your description, give a pretty clear picture of this scent. I think it would be a bit too intense for me. I feel the same way as Vrabec with pear and saffron.

Well.. I'm out when it comes to pear and saffron. For men's and women's fragrances.. But your comment was, as always, great to read :)

Interesting how others perceive it... I found it very sour... somehow not that special, I need to try it again...

Your beautiful review deserves Her EdT; I like it too and agree with the sweet-sour fruity floral vibe that has freshness and depth. I can't quite place the saffron, but thank you and saffron trophy!

Brilliantly analyzed and expressed in sensual, poetic prose about the scent of Parma. Burberry always manages to surprise. I really like this asymmetrical bottle shape too.

Very vividly and appealingly described, as usual from you :-)
But I'm definitely not on board with the scent. Saffron belongs in the kitchen.

I guess I'm out. When saffron is dominant, I can only handle it in rare cases. Even though your fragrance description is once again fantastic.
