A Twisted Path to This Fragrance - A Twisted Comment
Many years ago, I was a student, had no money, but wanted to have a perfume collection. There were incredibly many bad purchases involved:
- €1 dupes from Woolworth
- Imitation scents from 2 online shops, one of which claimed to be high quality (the bottles sometimes arrived leaking, so high quality that was, but at least I could return everything, I just have no idea what they were called anymore, but that doesn't matter. :D )
- I had my €5/€10 favorites from Rossmann and Co. and enjoyed sniffing through them
- Additionally, I was still a Yves Rocher customer back then, and there were many fragrances given away.
So, with my little money, I ended up with a (from my perspective) quite decent collection. This was after I discovered Parfumo; before that, I always had about 1 or 2 perfumes, and that was okay.
One day, I was at dm and looked around to see what was new. I needed a mascara and stood by essence. There I spotted a fragrance: "Like a Walk in the Summer Rain" was its name, and I liked it very much. It went into my basket, and I was happy. Of course, it was discontinued because unfortunately, many things are short-lived...
Then I looked for alternatives and finally found Elizabeth Arden - "Sunflowers" this year. Unfortunately, I don't particularly like the scent because it somehow has too much of everything and doesn't smell as harmonious to me as I would like. It is also not what the little essence one was.
So, I talked to the lovely Blauemaus, who is always a good point of contact for everything. :) She said, "Why don't you try Escape, I'll send you something." Said and done. A fragrance package arrived, and it included a sample of Escape. That's how I came to Escape. Quite a long journey, right?
Then it was time to test. Took out Escape, sprayed it, sniffed. Huh? This is not Sunflowers... This is not a Walk in the Summer Rain either. This is... Can it be? After all these years to have this wonderful scent back in my nose? Is it possible?
I clearly remember that the EdT from Ming Shu by Yves Rocher was my absolute favorite, which I used to wear all the time. I didn't need another one (well, back then I also had no money because I was a child/teenager with pocket money, but I was completely satisfied with that one scent).
Then I picked up my phone and wrote to the lovely Frau Maus: "A wonderful scent, reminds me of Ming Shu." Ming Shu hasn't been produced for a very long time, and I was happy to have found a fragrance that reminds me of it, spreads good mood, and accompanies me peacefully through the day. I don't want to have any youthful nostalgia here; I can gladly do without that, but the scent is simply beautiful.
What did Frau Maus reply? "If you want it, better get it quickly. It's been discontinued." WHAT??? NOOO!!! Please not! Why does one separate young happiness again? (young in a figurative sense, you know. :D ) Maybe I will stock up on it a bit, maybe not. I would like to have it, but can I endure the heartbreak again that I had to go through with Ming Shu? :( When they take away another favorite from me? Just like that... Jean-Paul has already done that with the EdP of Classique. :/ A nasty thing for sure. I might just get another bottle of Issey Miyake. Let's see if that one can stay longer.
So, after all this rambling, let's finally get to the scent. :D
Thank you very much, Frau Maus, for the sample. :)
The scent is wonderfully delicate, floral, fresh, aquatic. The composition is very harmonious. In contrast to Sunflowers (which is a completely different scent for me. Hold them side by side; they are completely different.) nothing is too much or too little here. The fragrance notes are wonderfully balanced, and they caress you for a long time. For such a fresh scent, it really lasts very well. Great job by Calvin here. Until now, I had always associated it with men's underwear. Back then, with the campaign featuring Beckham. My goodness, that was a long time ago. I suppose Mr. Klein thought the same and thinks the scent can go. It seems to be out of date. I find that so sad. There are many things that can stay, and here I would wish for it, but wishes are just empty air and won't influence anyone. Maybe there will be a time again when such scents are in vogue. We'll have to wait and see.
The scent reminds me (as mentioned) of my former favorite Ming Shu, which Yves Rocher discontinued many years ago. Anyone who likes aquatic, fresh fragrances can't go wrong here. Escape is not soapy, not overpowering, not annoying. It is there, but it doesn't hit you in the nose. It brings a smile to my face, and I am glad to have met it.
I tolerate it very well. My skin likes it, my nose likes it. Everything fits. No headaches, no sneezing, everything is great.
I haven't held the bottle in my hand and can only judge it from the picture. It's a bit too plain for me, and my brain wonders why the fragrance water is yellowish-golden instead of light blue. That would suit it better.
The longevity is superb, and the scent gently accompanies you throughout the day. I really like it and have been wearing it for the fourth day in a row now. That's a feat for most. I notice it all day long.
For me, a scent that always works. There should be more such fragrances.
In short:
Scent: Fresh, aquatic, not soapy, elegant
Longevity: Very good, especially because the scent is so fresh
Tolerability: No irritation on the skin or in the nose
Additional info: Only remnants are probably being sold now :O

Thank you so much 😊 Unfortunately, Escape doesn't get much love here, not sure why. And the Issey is really quite similar to it, which I also like a lot. 🥰
